Employer allegedly raped his maid twice in six hours at Pasir Ris flat

A 45-year-old man stood trial in the High Court today (May 10) for allegedly raping his domestic helper from Myanmar twice in a period of six hours at his Pasir Ris flat.

The Malaysian alcohol distributor, who is a Singapore permanent resident, does not deny having sex with her but contends that the acts were consensual.

The man is not named as the court has barred the publication of any information that could lead to the identification of the victim.

He is now divorced from his wife, who had employed the maid.

The man is charged with first raping the 35-year-old maid at about 1am on Dec 20, 2013.

Prosecutors, in their opening address to the court, said the victim was asleep and alone in the flat time when the man returned home in the early hours.

He restrained, molested and raped her despite her desperate pleas for him to stop, said Deputy Public Prosecutor Kumaresan Gohulabalan.

Six hours later, the victim was allegedly raped a second time in a similar manner.

A male friend of the victim will testify that she sounded distraught when she called him later that day to tell him she had been raped, said the DPP.

The victim also called the police.

Yesterday, police officers who responded to the call took the stand.

The court heard that they arrived at the flat in the late morning and the maid was calm as she spoke to a female officer inside the flat.

The officers said the man apologised to the maid but she turned away. At one point, he squatted down in front of her, saying: "Please don't do this to me."

The man, who is on bail, is defended by Mr Sunil Sudheesan.

The trial is scheduled for seven days and continues tomorrow (May 11)

Cats and snakes have had many epic showdowns before, but perhaps none are as bizarre as this.

The snake was fighting with a cat while half its body was inside the mouth of a toad.

The unusual encounter was caught on camera from the moment the cat approaches the snake, reports Asiantown.

The video seems to have been taken in Thailand, judging by the sound of excited onlookers in the background.

The cat reaches out its paw out and bats the snake on the head, which makes the reptile hiss angrily.

The snake extends what's left of its body and seems to be on alert when the cat moves towards it.

The video ends with the toad suddenly swallowing more of snake.
