STDs are very tiny organisms, minuscule in size compared to sperm. These super-small viruses can get through a hole in a condom much more easily than sperm can. For example, HIV (the AIDS-causing virus) is so small that two million of the disease-causing agents could crowd on the period at the end of a sentence.
In 1993 the University of Texas analyzed the results of 11 different studies that had tracked the effectiveness of condoms to prevent transmission of the AIDS virus. The average condom failure rate in the 11 studies for preventing transmission of the AIDS virus was 31%.
One reason condoms fail in preventing the transfer of AIDS is that latex condoms have tiny intrinsic holes called "voids." Sperm is larger than the holes, but the AIDS virus is 50 times smaller than these tiny holes which makes it easy for the virus to pass through [Source: Dr. C. M. To give you an idea of how easy it would be for the virus to pass through these holes, just imagine a ping pong ball going through a basketball hoop.

Did you know that you can use a condom and still get pregnant? A variety of studies have found that condoms have an "annual failure rate" of 10% to 36% when it comes to preventing pregnancy.
Can you imagine the consequences for a couple when their condom fails? It happens all the time! One of the studies found that among teenagers, the condom failure rate regarding pregnancy was 36%! On average, that means that one out of every three teenage couples using condoms will become pregnant each year.

Are You ready to catch a sexually transmitted diseases?
Condoms provide considerably less protection against sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) than they do against pregnancy.
That's because a girl can get pregnant only at ovulation time (that's two to three days each month) but STDs can pass from partner to partner at any time of the month.
STDs are frequently passed through "skin to skin" contact even when condoms are used. This can happen because the bacterial or viral germs that cause many serious STDs (such as human papillomavirus, chlamydia, herpes, and syphilis) do not infect just one place on your body. They may infect anywhere in the male or female genital areas.
So, even if the virus or bacteria isn't passed through tears or holes in the condom itself, you can still get diseases because condoms don't cover or protect all areas of the genital region. That means condoms don't prevent many of the STD infections that take place during sexual contact.

Your medical quotes are all taken out of context or are just plain vague. None of the quotes specifically point out the condoms don't work. They just imply that condoms can sometimes fail, or you can still get HIV via other means, such as BBBJ or painting.

It is obvious to any thinking person that condoms are very effective against HIV. Just compare the HIV infection rates in Africa, where condom use is minimal, to that of developed nations where condom use is widespread, and its obvious that developed nations have much lower rates of infection. We are talking about sample sizes of hundres of millions of people, which makes the statistics much more valid than some random quote from the net.

In fact, if you Google for Dr Jaffee (actually, the correct spelling is Jaffe, Chief of Epidemiology for CDC), you can find interviews with him. You read his interview and you can tell that one of his key message is that alot of the rubbish (like the one TS posted ) is from people with religious agendas. For example, in one interview he said :

"There's certainly very little, if any, evidence that abstinence-based education decreases the risk of [becoming infected with] HIV, or any other STD [sexually transmitted disease], for young people. I believe it largely reflects a religious conservative agenda of the current (Bush) administration."

"Certainly, when the [most] recent Bush administration came into office, it became very clear that abstinence-only was a major message. We were told that in a variety of ways, in a variety of venues. And it showed. I mean, for example, the CDC condom fact sheet was taken off the CDC's Web site for quite a long time, because it was seen as too supportive of the role of condoms in HIV prevention. Well, if you say condoms prevent HIV, you're really knocking out one of the arguments for abstinence-only."

Read that ? People who claim condoms don't work are often religious nutjobs trying to push their no-sex-outside-marriage agenda.

And stop trying to frighten people with your rubbish. Dr Jaffe also has this to say about this tactic :

"I don't think exaggerating risks really gets you very far. I mean, people know what the risks are, and if you say it's worse than it is, they won't believe you."

Condoms cannot prevent Herpes or Genital warts, but these are chronic but not deadly.

You hare the right to share info, but you DO NOT have the right to spread MISINFORMATION. Your "info" is incorrect and misleading, and is nothing more than an attempt to distort reality.

The study you quoted is from 1993. For crying out loud, that's fucking 17 years ago, and alot of things have changed since them. Any study older than 5 years is worthless in this rapidly changing world. Even HIV infection has changed its status - many people now consider HIV not as a fast-death, but a chronic disease just like diabetes and hypertension.

Bros, don't be mislead by this fucker. HIV virus is indeed very small, smaller than the "holes/void/pores" in a condom, but, remember that the virus is not a free floating or free moving virus. They are hosted and transmitted via body fluids. They can only "go" where the body fluids can go, and fluids cannot go through rubber. This means that the virus CANNOT move through the condom "holes" because the body fluids cannot penetrate the condom.

The only danger is when the condom fails, which means it either breaks, or you use it improperly. Make sure your condom is not expired, is of a good quality and is well lubricated.

Use your common sense to avoid being misled by fuckers who have a hidden agenda, especially unscrupulous religious nutcases who are trying to push their religious beliefs onto "sinners".

I'm not arguing that commercial sex is safe, but I want to let bros know that most of what this asshole is saying is pure nonsense. The only truthful point is that some STDs, like Herpes and Warts, can be transmitted by skin to skin contact which cannot be prevented by condoms. These are annoying, but not lethal though.

just want to quote this label from a condom manufacturer "if properly used. ok_mo_o condoms will prevent pregnancy and reduce the risk of transmission of HIV infection(AIDS) and other sexually transmitted diseases ;and another manufacturer ( d_r_x ) stated that "No method of contraception can give you 100% protection against pregnancy,HIV or sexually transmitted infections.These condoms undergone testing otherwise they wont publish it in their product.

I believe that there's no such thing as 100% guarantee that these condoms will protect everyone from being infected with AIDS or STD, i probably give it around 99.9% safe and 0.1% room for error.

and also, there are situations that needs to be considered to be infected i.e. for instance you pick the wrong partner and unlucky enough to used the 0.1% error condom... though luck

i say safety first i you feel the urge... use condom

I dun know anything about condoms other then it can break, have 99.9% protection, cannot use oil-base lubricant on condom.

Another thing I also know is that, anyone who studies medicine will never give a 100% guarantee. You might just walk around and still get Aids cause you got a new earrings, tattoo? Even more unlucky, you got a crazy guy bite you and you got it.

I still think it depends on luck or in TS context, God's Will.

So play on but use condom, 99.9% is better then 0%.

There are 12 pack condoms, does this mean use all 12 condoms at the same time?

Only supposed to use 1 condom each time. Not multiple condoms, using more than 1 condom at the same time makes the condom break more easily due to the friction.
