Finn settles molestation case with $5,000 and apology

A FINNISH man charged with pinching the buttocks of a woman at a bar near Orchard Road was yesterday acquitted after compounding the offence.

Mr Joni Mikael Kiuru, 35, has paid $5,000 to settle the matter. He also apologised to the woman in open court...

Speaking to The Straits Times outside the court, the woman said she had not pressed charges for the money.

'It's not about money. It's more about him apologising to me, because after the incident, he did not want to admit that he did it,' she said...

Not about the money?? Really?? So if the man had admitted and apologised, she would have let the matter rest?

The lesson for men in Singapore is that they need to exercise self-control. $5,000 (plus lawyer's fees) if spent judiciously can buy months of sexual heaven!

In this case, there is little doubt that the man did pinch the lady's bottom. The interesting point in this incident is whether it is worth paying $5000 for this impetuous act.

Obviously not.... but now and again similar cases are reported in the press. I consider such men rather silly for not being able to exercise their self-control.

Another point is that in another country, such incidents would be considered too trivial and not reach the courts at all.

The man was actually acquitted with the mutual consent of all parties after the court was told that compensation had been paid to the molested lady. That means no criminal record for him, only that he is poorer by $5000. Not a bad outcome for his foolishness if he can well afford it, but still a stupid act because he can have a much more complete experience many times over with attractive sex workers!

There is a prescribe price for every body part under sg law, that you can pay to get out of molest charges, provided the woman accepts the compensation. If not, the $ paid will be used as a mitigating factor to get a lighter sentence (usually a fine)
