A couple of years ago, I got to know one of the most attractive girls I’ve seen. I was 19 and she, a 24 year old fresh graduate from an overseas university. We became colleagues at a local media company and in the first couple of weeks, Alicia and I remained as just mere colleagues.

We hardly spoke to each other during or after office hours and only communicated when we had to. Whether for work, or during lunch - when everyone would usually hang out together.

Several months into the job, our office had a small Christmas party and we all attended it. There was a steady flow of free alcohol making its way around the tables and enough gossips to last the night. It was only then, at this party, did Alicia and I really sit down to have a proper chat.

We were at the same table as the rest of our colleagues and as the night wore on, so did our gossiping. But there were only so many anecdotes to share before everyone started getting quiet.

The line of questioning then shifted and became a little more personal. One by one, we went around the table to say if we had a partner or not. Naturally, I was curious about Alicia and felt a tinge of sadness when she said she had been attached to her boyfriend “for the past few months” - which was the same period of time as I had been with my girlfriend.

It was probably the endless alcohol, or the sudden loss of interest in the mindless topics of conversation, that led me to abruptly say “hey guys, I’m going off the toilet for a while. I’ll be right back yea?”.

“Eh I’ll come with you. I also need to pee damn badly,” said Alicia.

I got over the momentary shock and uttered meekyly: “Oh, okay. Sure.”
She replied with a quizzical look, but stood up anyway as we made our way to the loo.

I got over the momentary shock and uttered meekyly: “Oh, okay. Sure.”
She replied with a quizzical look, but stood up anyway as we made our way to the loo.

We walked in silence for a while, neither of us making any attempt to hide the obvious air of awkwardness that dominated the journey to the loo. It was no less than a three minute walk away from where we had left our colleagues, but the silence made the trip to the toilet seem like a million years.

“You seem a little unsteady, have you had too much to drink?”, I asked her; in a weak attempt at starting a conversation.

“I’m fine, had a couple of bottles and then mixed it up with three glasses of wine and a flute of champagne,” she assured me. “Bad choice, right? The mixing of alcohol part,” she continued.
I chuckled and jokingly assured her that I’d done worse stuff before.

Almost immediately, she nudged me in a playful manner.

“Ah, so you arent exactly the prim and proper kid I thought you were huh?,” she teased.

“Excuse me! what do you mean by that!”, I countered.

Alicia, being the playful girl she was, quickly retorted: “Sorry dude, tell you more another time. Unless you want to come and pee in the cubicle next to mine?”

I rolled my eyes at her and we both laughed as we parted towards the respective toilets.
