Hi, i've been to Iran quite a few times. People are generally nice and friendly. Also depends on which city or place you would be stationed. Tehran is very congested and polluted. Some districts are dangerous to go for foreigners.
Food compared to Asia not much choice and quite bland.
Forget about cheonging in Iran unless you are well connected to rich locals who invite you to private parties. Some Iranian girls are very pretty but not advisable to approach in public as that can get you into serious trouble.
My advice is not to go work in Iran if you can help it, unless it is for short time and earning big bucks making it worthwhile to tolerate the fact that there is absolutely no fun to be had in Iran.
No offence meant to anyone, just based on my personal experience.

So the entertainment there sucks right? and how about the censorship of the televison (any oversea tv programme can be available there, like Cable TV etc.) and the internet there? Place of interest there?
Any more info on Tehran? Heard that there are quite a number of Chinese expats there?

Well there's not much entertainment to begin with. Anything remotely resembling fun is prohibited by the government. TV is also tightly controlled and any 'western' channel is censored or blocked. The locals get around that by installing illegal satellite antennas on their roofs. Internrt is by now also very well controlled and censored by the government. As you may have heard, they are even planning to cut themselves off from the worldwide web and have a local internet / intranet instead.
Since a lot of western companies have pulled out of Iran due to embargo reason there are more Chinese in Iran now picking up the crumbs of business left. But usually the Chinese stick together and rent house together and don't mingle much with the locals.

Well it is cut off from the rest of the world and no entertainment after work, not worth going... China is a better place to explore after all

Absolutely. China is a great place to enjoy. Not least for food, which also really sucks in I.

Re: Working in Iran???

Hi

Not sure of you are going to find work there yourself or your company is posting you there... It is a taboo to seek liberal pleasure there. You are better off earning your living there and hopping back to one of the UAE liberal zones for wine, booze and girls (see sammyboy other threads in the international fl, u can link up with some of the singaporean bros working there too).

If you are caught with your pants down in Iran for pleasure.... Haiz... You would wish to have Pcc with your personal DVD and pirated satellite dish tv programme... But that is another story altogether during Ramadan and underground joints. But don't worry about it too much.... Your renumeration should be more than enough to cover your off-worldly pleasures hopping back to the UAE liberal zones if they want your expertise there.

Stay safe. Btw, try not to take their national carriers at all. If you are working near Bandar Abbas, the connecting sea transport from Dubai is ok, a vital port of entry for all sorts into Iran from outside world. Most of their locals also "work and play" outside of Iran via Dubai.

Their nuts and dates are pretty good...

Re: Working in Iran???

No bro, it was just a biz visit to "explore" opportunities. Did not really expect anything out of it; luckily did not as time wore on, more embargoes like banks and oil money clamping came down.

The bryani and curry was done there in iran, the whoring was done back at UAE side (before and after bryani).

What about you?
