Frequent users of Facebook can now opt for prepaid mobile plan launched on Wednesday by telco SingTel catered specifically for the social media platform.
The Facebook plan gives subscribers 1GB of bundled data to use a day when accessing content on Facebook, such as photos uploaded directly to the social networking site. The plan goes for $0.50 a day, $3 for seven days, and $6 for 30 days.
Standard prepaid data charges will be payable if the data limit is exceeded, or if users download content from non-Facebook sites. The rate is up to 5.4cents per 10KB of data used, depending on the prepaid card. For instance, if the user clicks on a YouTube link posted on Facebook that brings the user to the video sharing site, the plan's bundled data will not cover the accessed content.
When such situations arise, a pop-up message will appear to notify users before they proceed as they will incur additional data charges outside of SingTel's Facebook plan. The plan can be used with Android, iOS, Windows Phone and BlackBerry handsets and related tablets, as well as gadgets that support the Facebook Java-based app. The Facebook prepaid plan comes after a similar plan for WhatsApp that SingTel launched in August last year.
