Thumbs up CNA report : SMRT one of the top train operators in the world

An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:

According to a report published on Channel News Asia, SMRT is one of the best transportation companies in the world.

They said that according to 2012 data available from metros by CoMET Nova Benchmarking group, SMRT was found to be one of the best in the world.

This is puzzling as Singapore's MRT reliability has been abysmal over recent years with constant breakdowns and delays.

In fact, even SMRT has admitted that they had an average of 4 delays per 5 days of operation in 2011 and 2012.

By 2013, the number had dropped to only 3 every 5 days. These delays are usually short and only last a bit over 5 minutes.

In terms of major breakdowns lasting over half an hour, 2012 saw 7 while 2012 had only 3 before the situation got worse slightly to 4 indicants in 2013.

This year so far, there have also already been 3 major breakdowns and 2014 has barely started.

To make matters worse, fares are increasing and our trains are becoming more and more crowded such that you have to wait for several trains to come and go before you have room to board during peak hours.

Is this really a world class transport system?
