MRT Line Broke Down Again. Massive Crowds on Platforms.

DELAYS OVER 1 HOUR LONG SEEN ON EAST WEST LINE YESTERDAY EVENING .node-article .field-name-ad-box-in-article {float: left;margin: 15px 15px 10px 0;}.node-article .field-tags{clear: both;} Post date: 15 Jul 2014 - 6:55am A train brake fault resulted in slower speeds of trains going toward Joo Koon on the East West line yesterday evening. The delays occurred just after 6pm when passengers on board the affected train were told to get off the train and wait for the next one. After passengers disembarked, there was little information given to them and they were forced to simply stand on the platform and wait. SMRT explained that the delays would be about 20 minutes of extra travel time, only to revise this later explaining that it would actually be about 60 minutes. No alternative modes of transport were deployed. Although ‘normal’ train operations resumed about half an hour later at 6:40pm, the congestion and large number of stranded commuters meant that most of the trains were full and passengers on the affected trains still had to add about an hour to their travel time. Huge crowds were seen at Buona Vista where commuters complained that it was almost dangerous just to move up and down the escalators. Overall, it appears that SMRT has not learned how to better handle train delays despite having experienced them on so many occasions. Do you think SMRT should build better contingency plans seeing as their trains are so unreliable? Click here to view the whole thread at www.sammyboy.com. |
