Mediacorp is also pushing propaganda by astro-turfing public opinion on PM Lee's National Day Rally speech.

They published a report today on Today Online claiming that netizens are all supporting PM Lee and his NDR speech.

They cited a facebook discussion that was held by the government Feedback unit REACH yesterday about the shift to focus more on non-graduates.

The 90 minute group chat session had over 130 people participating at one point, and while there were some criticisms, they focused only on the netizens who had left positive feedback about the recently announced changes.

During the discussion, topics such as how a cultural shift could be achieved to put less focus on the paper chase was discussed and many expressed their concerns that it would take time and the government needs to take the first step.

Others also raised the point that while the new initiatives are good, even more needs to be done to really effect change.

The Applied Study in Polytechnics and ITE review (ASPIRE) committee, is going to be reviewing the career paths available to non graduates and will be submitting recommendations about how to improve education and career opportunities. The committee is headed by Senior Minister of state for Law and Education, Ms Indranee Rajah.

What is most interesting is that the mainstream media continues to only focus on the positive comments made by netizens and completely ignores any criticism.

When all the local media outlets keep publishing stories about how "supportive" Singaporeans are of PM Lee's policies, they are drowning out legitimate criticism.

On PM Lee's facebook page, his admins have been in overdrive promptly deleting any criticisms and making it look like there is popular support for his policies when in fact there may be valid concerns being ignored.

This is a very common propaganda technique (called astro-turfing) used where media makes it look like there is support and so some people who are not necessarily very interested or involved in the political discussion will see the general "support" and also support the policies because they think most people feel that way.

It is a shame that even the government's feedback portal is ignoring our feedback. How will they know what is wrong with their policies if they do not listen to those who complain about them?
