The alleged gunman, identified as Ismaaiyl Brinsley, later committed suicide, officials said. Brinsley was also accused of shooting his former girlfriend in Baltimore on Saturday morning. At a news conference with Police Commissioner William Bratton, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said the officers had been shot “execution-style.” The officers were stationed outside Tompkins Houses in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood when they were approached by a 28-year-old man who began firing at the windshield of their marked police cruiser, a law-enforcement official said. The officers were taken to Woodhull Medical Center in Brooklyn, where both were pronounced dead, authorities said. The suspected gunman fled to a nearby subway station where he shot himself, authorities said. He was taken to Brooklyn Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
