A man on a West Air flight pulled open an emergency door on the aircraft soon after it landed in Chongqing on Monday night in the third incident of its kind in a month in China, mainland media reported.

Photographs taken by witnesses at Chongqing’s airport showed the aircraft with its emergency slide deployed.

Chongqing Daily reported that the crew called police and the passenger was taken away for questioning.

According to the report, an initial investigation found that the man was seated next to the emergency door and might have opened it by accident.

Airline staff had briefed passengers before departure from Lhasa about not touching the emergency door unless necessary, it said.

New emergency slides would cost the airline at least 100,000 yuan (HK$126,500) to install.

Irritated at delays caused by bad weather, passengers on a flight to Beijing opened three emergency exits just moments before take-off last week.

And a Chinese passenger hoping for some fresh air made headlines worldwide last month when he pulled open an emergency door on a plane about to take off from Hangzhou to Chengdu.
