So how? Still want to vote for such traitorous $$$million FAP minister? http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/...g/1597546.html Government putting interests of Singaporeans first: Grace Fu While Singapore cannot close its doors to foreigners, the Government is putting the interests of its citizens first, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Office Grace Fu on Sunday (Jan 18) during a ministerial visit to Tampines. Minister for Prime Minister's Office Grace Fu launched the programme during her ministerial community visit to the Tampines East Division. Minister in the Prime Minister's Office Grace Fu made these comments at a dialogue on Sunday (Jan 18) with students and residents in the Tampines East division as part of her ministerial visit to the area. She assured them that the Government will look after the interests of Singaporeans first - for example, by making sure there are enough opportunities in education and housing. ALLEVIATING TENSION While Singapore needs foreigners to compete on a global scale, Ms Fu said more can be done to alleviate tension. "It is also about integration,” she said. “There are important lessons that we learnt that we need to integrate better. And how are we doing that? What we do is that we try to promote - through activities, through programmes, through coming together to work on community projects together - a very seamless, natural way for us to work with a non-Singaporean." Ms Fu also shared her thoughts on the Filipino nurse who was dismissed by his employers Tan Tock Seng Hospital after making insensitive remarks on Singaporeans. "We should also know that perhaps for one foreigner who makes such insensitive remarks, there are also many others who don't and many others who respect us and also, maybe, other Singaporeans who also make insensitive remarks against foreigners,” said Ms Fu. “Let's face it. Both sides also have some black sheep that are less sensitive when making online comments or making speeches. What we need to do is to stand up against it firmly but not get too emotional about it. " The dialogue also addressed concerns of Tampines' residents, one of which was terrorism. When asked if there was anything being done to raise the security level in the area, they were told that while the Government is taking as much precaution as possible, there is no guarantee that it would not happen. Residents were advised to stay as united as possible in the case of such an event. HOPE FOR MORE SG BABIES Ms Fu, who is also Second Minister for the Environment and Water Resources and Foreign Affairs, also visited Tampines' latest residents – two SG50 newborns – as part of the SG50 celebrations. Berkeley Cho, just 18 days old, was one of them. He was born on Jan 1 at 7.47am and his parents already feel quite lucky. "He cries on a need-to basis,” said Tammy Cho, Berkeley’s mother. “He doesn't really fuss and he allows us to sleep quite a lot at night so far, so fingers crossed!" Besides a good night's sleep, his parents also received a Jubilee baby gift - given to babies born in 2015. Ms Fu said she is hopeful that more Singaporeans will be encouraged to start a family. "Actually if you look at the population growth of Singapore, we have been having quite low growth for some time already,” she said. “In fact, since the late 80s and 90s, it has been below our replacement level. So I think it has been part of our strategy to be supplemented by foreigners, both from a population point of view and also to supplement the workforce." S$1 MILLION BOOST FOR BUDDING SPORTING TALENTS During her ministerial visit, Ms Fu also launched a community sports programme for lower-income families in Tampines. The Active Tampines-Peter Lim Community Sports Programme will support them in selected sports such as rugby, air rifle, swimming, bowling and netball. The target is to reach out to 400 participants over the next five years. PAP Community Foundation Tampines East general manager Benny Yeo said: “It caters for those people from low-income family. Basically not for sports that are already very routine out there, but sports that are beyond the reach for the very needy family." The community sports programme is sponsored by a $1 million commitment from Peter Lim, to be spread over five years. - CNA/by/ec Click here to view the whole thread at www.sammyboy.com. |
