Thumbs up Nea to take action against 5th food outlet at marina square for unacceptable hygiene

NEA TO TAKE ACTION AGAINST 5TH FOOD OUTLET AT MARINA SQUARE FOR UNACCEPTABLE HYGIENE

Post date:
4 Feb 2015 - 10:30pm

The national environment agency said in a statement that they will be taking action against a 5th food outlet at Marina Square shopping mall after rat droppings were found at the store.
NEA has been conducting frequent pest inspections since a food stall in the mall served a vegetable dish with a dead rat inside.
Follow up inspections also found that an additional 14 food stalls had rat activity in the false ceilings above their premises and a total of 4 stalls had action taken against them. Two were found with rat droppings and two were found to be unacceptably dirty.
NEA did not name the 5th food stall which was found with rat activity but it explained that they may be issuing demerit points or fine the operator. Rat droppings had been found at the store.

Stalls which have 12 demerit points applied within 12 months can have their licenses revoked or suspended.
Meanwhile, Hotpot culture, the store which served a dead rat in the vegetable dish, has had its suspension repealed and they will be reopening shortly.
"Operators of food establishments have a duty to ensure their premises are clean and free from pests by putting in place a good cleaning regime and an effective pest control programme," an NEA spokesman said. "NEA takes such lapses seriously and will not hesitate to take errant operators to task."
While NEA did not share whether the rest of the mall was free of rat activity, as more and more stalls are slowly being found to have rat activity, it is likely that the mall is not yet in the clear.
Do you still have the confidence to eat at Marina Square?
