20,000 New Jobs But 55,000 New PRS & Citizens?
An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:
http://therealsingapore.com/content/...w-prs-citizens 20,000 NEW JOBS BUT 55,000 NEW PRS & CITIZENS? Post date: 10 Mar 2015 - 1:11pm Jobs will shrink to 20,000 According to the Straits news report (front page headlines top story) “Squeeze to get tighter as workforce shrinks” (Mar 10) – AS THIS decade comes to a close in 2019, the number of locals entering the workforce each year will shrink by up to 80 per cent to around 20,000 – a decline that will significantly tighten the squeeze in the Singapore labour market.” 55,000 new PRs and citizens a year With the Population White Paper’s plan going ahead to have 30,000 new PRs and 25,000 new citizens per year – how many of the 20,000 jobs a year will go to “true blue” Singaporeans? Complaints against employers dropped As to ”The number of complaints (against employers hiring foreigners over locals) dropped to 230 last year from 310 in 2013, Dr Khor said. Of the 230 complaints, about 40 per cent were unsubstantiated, she added.”We have pursued every single one of these cases to establish if they adopted discriminatory practices. When we find proof, MOM will not hesitate to take action.”Action ranges from advising firms on how to plug human resource gaps to issuing warnings and having curbs on work pass privileges for more serious infringements. For example, maritime firm Prime Gold International was banned from hiring foreign workers for two years after it was found to have retrenched 13 Singaporeans and replaced them with foreigners” – is this a “sick joke” or what? Only one small company penalised in the last decade or so? And only penalise new work permit applucations – existing permits can still renew?
