Minister Lui Tuck Yew to increase passenger capacity by 60% ahead of elections

admin / 1 day ago August 3, 2015

Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew today (August 3) announced that he will increase the passenger capacity of trains running along the Circle Lines by 60% in response to the coming elections. This 60% increase will see 24 new trains added to the current fleet of 40.

“These trains are part of LTA’s continuous efforts to add more capacity to the system so that commuters can enjoy a better travel experience. LTA will continue to monitor the ridership along the various rail lines and work with the operators to augment the capacity and meet the long-term projected demand”
Recently, the closing General Elections have seen a number of election goodies for Singaporeans ranging from 24-hour kopitiams to GST vouchers and public fares reduction. The ruling PAP government have been introducing a slew of populist and short-term cash benefits for Singaporeans to prepare in its worst-ever election result in 2015. However, the Singapore Opposition remains incapable of removing the incumbents out of power due to three-corner fights and a biased mainstream media.
