Thumbs up MOM Approves Only 32.5% of EP Applications Per Week! Happy, Xenophobic Sinkies??

An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:

In a written response to Opposition NCMP Gerald Giam, Manpower Minister Lim Swee Say revealed that his Manpower Ministry approves 260 Employment Pass (EP) applications for foreigners every week for the past one year since July 2014 when the Fair Consideration Framework was introduced.

The Manpower Ministry also receives about 800 EP applications every week and that all applications came in after the legislated 14 days waiting period. In Singapore, employers will need to advertise a vacant position for 14 days before they can hire a foreigner on Employment Pass.

Every week, there are about 68,000 job vacancies on the national job portal and three-quarter of them are professionals, managers and executive jobs. The most common complaint from the public is that Singapore employers do not have to explain why they are not hiring a Singaporean, they simply have to wait out 14 days to hire a foreigner on EP.
