World powers are in 4th Gen Nuke competition for both nuclear power and bombs, featuring CLEAN nuke without uranium plutonium etc heavy molecules, basically just pure light molecules which are variants of hydrogen. No more long half-life molecules to contaminate environment for decades. It is clean because their strong radiation stops quickly after nuclear reaction. So, if power plant accident happened, the crisis will not last for long time. If a city or any other target gets nuclear bombed, it does not have to have very long lasting radioactive contamination, just only a very powerful hot explosion and radiation during just the time of attack, and then the ruins and dust cools off to a clean state.

Prior to 4th gen, nuke using uranium plutonium etc heavy molecules leaves very harmful radioactivity lasting for decades. The 4th gen give a very powerful flash of ultra strong energy which decay off rapidly afterwards, without that very long lasting pains.

It means China can nuke enemy states, rapidly kill them, and occupy their land and resources, move Chinese people in to control an use their resources, without suffering radiation residue. :D

If they nuked SG, there is no more sinkie instantly, as soon as ash cools, Beijing can re-name the ruined island 南鼻屎 South Pee Sai, bring their man and machine to level the ruins and rebuild their own city very quickly, fly Chinese flag of course.

IF they nuke USA, there is no difference, except big land and natural resources such as oil available. All corpse can vaporise to dust within mili-second by nuke heat.

In pre-4th gen era, nuke anywhere will have decades long radioactive pollution caused by the long half-life of heavy molecule nuke materials.

　　新华社合肥２月４日电（记者蔡敏）记者４日从中科院合肥物质科学研究院了解到，该院等离子 体所承担的大 科学工程“人造太阳”实验装置（ＥＡＳＴ）在１月底的实验中，成功实现了电子温度超过５０００ 万度、持续时 间达１０２秒的超高温长脉冲等离子体放电。这是国际托卡马克实验装置在电子温度达到５０００万 度时，持续时 间最长的等离子体放电。

专家们介绍，这一重大成果展示了ＥＡＳＴ作为超导装置在较高参数下开展稳态实验研究的特长和能 力，标志着中 国在稳态磁约束聚变研究方面继续走在国际前列。

　　超高温长脉冲等离子体放电是未来聚变堆的基本运行模式。欧盟和日本科学家曾获得最长为６０ 秒的高参数偏 滤器等离子体。中国新一代“人造太阳”实验装置既定科学目标是实现１亿度１０００秒的等离子体 运行。

　　在本轮实验中，团队工程技术人员和科学家们通过集成创新和开展全面的实验研究，“人造太阳 ”实验装置成 功实现了１０２秒、芯部电子温度超过５千万度的高温等离子体放电，是重要的阶段性研究进展。

　　美、法等国曾于２０世纪８０年代中期发起了国际热核实验反应堆计划，旨在建立世界上第一个 受控热核聚变 实验反应堆，为人类输送巨大的清洁能量。这一过程与太阳产生能量的过程类似，因此受控热核聚变 实验装置也被 俗称为“人造太阳”。中国是该计划的参与国之一。

　　ＥＡＳＴ是由中国科学家独立设计建造的世界首个全超导核聚变实验装置，于２００７年建成并 开始科学实验 ，目前已成为国际上稳态磁约束聚变研究的重要实验平台。
