At the centre of the Feud between the Lee siblings is the former home of Lee Kuan Yew, 38 Oxley Road. On side wants the house demolished as per the wishes of their father. The other party wants the house preserved for historic reasons. Perhaps a compromise can be achieved based on way the house is demolished, one that is acceptable to both.
By demolishing, I am assuming that the existing physical structure will be removed from the land and a bare land left with no house or any structure on it. The land can be then sold off and proceeds be given to charities as per one of the agreements between the 2 brothers. If the removal of any physical structure on the land is the main goal here, this can be achieved by an organized brick by brick demolition of the house. In other parts of the world, its not unusual to see this. The entire house is deconstructed and removed from the existing site and then re-assembled in another location, exactly as it was in the original location. Much of the house is made of bricks. there are many experts in other countries familiar with how to so this. The house will be the same with the original materials and everything else intact.
Currently, if the Prime Minister prevails and the house is turned into some sort of historic site, the Oxley road location is a terrible place to access for members of the public planning to visit it. Oxley at that part is narrow and a 2 lane road. Imagine tour buses and hordes of visitors going to the house. There will be gridlocked traffic and the neighbours will be very unhappy and not be able to access their own house. Its much better for the govt to buy a piece of land in a more accessible location, near to a MRT station and to other sites of historical location, and re-assemble the house on that site. The removal of the entire house from Oxley might placate the PM's siblings. It may not address the issue of using the house as a monument to LKY, but for all intends and purposes, the house is gone from 38 Oxely, which is what they wanted in the first place. And in exchange, the govt has the exact same house in a new more amenable location.
Perhaps this suggestion is an acceptable compromise to all parties. just my 2 cents.
