Thanks to the brudders here for all the reports and recce info. Been to Shi Jia Bao (on Yan2 Ping1 Road and near Wu3 Ding4 Road Junction) twice and have to say the experiences are quite good. You only pay at the end as you walk out. Just bring your cigarettes or hp with you. Leave everything in your locker. Once you had your fill of the hot tubs and shower, walk up through the other door at the robe/drying room. talk to any busboy and say you want massage "An Mo". No other words need to be mentioned. Damage each time is 600RMB without receipt (I think with receipt is 650). This is the complete package, includes use of spa, hot pool, facilities and everything. Other services like back rub, foot massage are extra. They close late too, at 3am or something and tons of empty taxis will be waiting outside when you are done. Good place to bring customers.

Also, if you go in the afternoon, they bring like a few girls for you to choose. At night, you get assigned, but you can reject and change if you don't like.

Yes HK City is near Sichuan Lu, in fact it is very close to the Sichuan Bridge. It is really not worth the money going there. Bro Looksee and I have been there before. It is very expensive, I think I paid around RMB 900.

If you really want to go, it is not far from Nangjing Dong Lu. Ask for direction to Sichuan Lu, and you will find it.

Based on what you have said/asked, I suggest you bring some1 experience with you to the KTV. Why must ask one by one? Why not ask them altogether? (Don know or Blur?) :D You can ask those from Sichuan to move a step up for you to choose during the parade. However, if they do not know your intension they may be hesitating to do so....cos they unsure whether you ask them to stay or leave. On the other hand they know you want Sichuan gal, may be most of them are Sichuan gals. Get it?
At the end of the day, you will still feel that you got the wronged one.........cos there is right one. To me, it is all about the atmosphere that matter in KTV, only then it will be more fun to go, bro Maverick is the right person to invite, so as Bro SPG69, Whamtham....

If you are really looking for a lady to go back to the hotel, I would suggest you get some veteran here to recommend a mamasan to get one for you directly. Afterall, you can see, most of the bros here do not really fond of KTV very much.

There are many 24 hours convenience store in Shanghai that you can get the cap easily.

Don't think can find much around here on puxi side. Speckle here and there. There is one near to my workplace though which I tried near to Shanxi nanlu. Others have seen it while in a cab on the way home along Fuxing lu but realise that Fuxing lu is very long and from my place to the other side.
Have one right here below my office but there are no pink lights and the doors are frosted at certain portion, sometimes try to catch a glimpse saw gals wearing boots but cannot see the face...sometimes saw aunties standing at the door and once saw a young girl at the door. Also, depends on what you mean by happening. If you want bars & pubs, Mao Ming Lu and Heng Shan Lu area is the best. Rest of the stuff is pretty much everywhere. You can get around very easy by taxi anyway.

Funny, I walked by and there are all still there on/near WeiFang, across the street from KFC. The whole stretch. Also Puxi there are tons too, try Jian Guo Lu near the Huang Pu District. Saw tons there. I never did try FL. So I can't really comment but they are all there.

Chang Shou Lu in Pu Tuo Qu area is quite happening. Bars, restaurants. Close to Jing An Qu also. Good location lah.

Along Heng Shan Lu there is also Bourbon Street, Real Love, Red Indian, Narcicus, Pollaner and several other smaller pubs. There are also a couple of bars off Heng Shan Lu on Yong Jia Lu. Restaurants there also pretty good but pricey. You can also hang out at a nice tea house there or a bowling alley or pool place one floor above Real Love.

Yah, the old white buildings. During CNY all closed lah bro. But right before CNY all still in business. I never patronized there but the girls will wave and smile when I walk by. One time I actually saw a police car stopped at the side but the girls still wave to passerbys looking for business. I am sure they saw the police but they do not seem to care. Maybe they are customers as well? :p Pudong actually pale in comparison to Puxi in businesses both entertainment and food-wise. These hair salons are everywhere now. Personally I would think twice before patronizing these places looking at their usual clientel.

Unlike Singapore, the gers are not supposed to 'butterfly', if they do, u can complain to the mommy and change your ger without even needing to tip them. The regular tipping here is RMB300, though some lower end ones may accept RMB200. Just to add a little to what Bro Shanghaitan has said, for ktv, to get the better looking gers, do go a little earlier, no later than 8p.m. Unless u have your regular ger and have booked her, otherwise, going beyond 8p.m. will mean u have lesser selection. Unlike Singapore, the gers are not supposed to 'butterfly', if they do, u can complain to the mommy and change your ger without even needing to tip them. The regular tipping here is RMB300, though some lower end ones may accept RMB200. As for pubs, most of the working gers go for the white expats and not the Asian expats, if u just want get shagged, would suggest health centres or 'barber' shops, depend on what suits u. In my case, do I need to register with the local police for a "residence Permit"? Do you guys living / station in Shanghai register this?

hi there,

yes actually u need to register urself with the local authorities within 3 days of arriving in shanghai (check ur area where this permit is done not any police station also can)..ppl staying in hotels..the hotels will do it for you....
but depends on what u have planned for urself...if u r here for only 1 or 2 months and flying back after that...your visa allows you to stayed up to 2 months...you can dun report...i dun find it a big problem....

if u plan to extend ur stay n visa its better for u to do it...cos they require the yellow piece of paper to process the visa....

if u had registered once and u fly in n out of the country often, u dun have to re-register everytime...the yellow piece of paper is a temporary residence permit and there is a time (no. of days) stated on the paper that allows u to stay (will go according to ur visa and passport) so if 60 days then u went on the 3rd day they will write 57 days...so when this expire u need to register again...

if u r alone n staying in ur rented apartment, bring along the contract n ask ur landlord along or friend to get this done. I went with a friend and his dad did it for me but the address is his place not my own place...hahaha..just need the paper to extend my stay thats all...
I fly out every 2 months previously...but this time i did the permit thing so i can extend my stay here.
if u r posted by ur company here, i'm sure ur company will arrange the things for u.

As there are a lot of ppl coming in and out of shanghai from other provinces..its just a way for them to keep track i reckon...if not u will be consider an alien.. :eek: ....

if u r just staying here for the 60 days...then i would recommend u to avoid the hassle...as long as ur visa is a multi entry...everytime u go out n come back in..they will stamp 60 days....so u can go in and out as many times as u wish...just check that ur visa is multi entry not a single entry....
so actually the 60 days doesn't border u...the 60 days start when u arrive at the airport from wherever u come from...
hope u r not confused...meaning if u came in..they stamp 60 days...1 week later u fly out again and come back after 3 days...they stamp 60 days again...
as for the arrival/departure card..dun have to be precise...normally i just say the city 'Shanghai' or 'Shanghai-pudong'...thats it....if they ask u say u r not sure as u have not found a hotel yet or u dunno where ur frens have arrange for ur accomodation......i just find that column redundant...and so many people coming in n out of the airport..they won't be checking every details...

I have narrowed down some places that I MUST check out during my one week stay there. Sadly, i only will have one friday and sat to go full swing as I am taking the midnight flight back on Sun morning.

However i plan to get lucky at least 3 nights....heheh.

Anyway, the places i narrowed down are:

KTV: jin bi hui huang (still looking for address), jin se nian hua (address unknown, but read that its quite reasonable priced), qun xing hui 1 & 2 (address for 2 found, but not 1) and 'ÌÀÄ·Éú' (opposite singapore art museum), and ÌìÉÏÈ˼䡣

PUBS & Discos: galaxy hotel, 'real love' at heng shan rd, fuxing park '97', Puj's at grand hyatt jin mao da sha, and shui cheng rd/xian xia rd red light district.


It would be very much appreciated if experienced brothers out there can reply with addresses that i am still looking for, and which days are recommended to check out the ktvs and pubs. shanghai is very big, and my time is very limited there...sigh...so would like to make every after hours count.

Whether you'll get used to staying here depends on how well your adaptabilty are...it takes sometime to get used to it maybe 6 months or less or more depending on individual.
For me i like to have a change of environment and experience. I only got 1 life, make the most of it. Everything is a learning process.
I think there are some communities or association out there where u can join but I do not have the details. For examples, some of the samsters here have manage to create a community among themselves.

There is a Singapore Association in Shanghai. You may call the SIngapore Consulate in Shanghai, and they will direct you where and how to contact them. I have been in Shanghai for the past six years (not staying there, but extremely frequent trips) with 1 year visa, 60 days stay and multiple entries, and am now quite used to the life there. What I did was to seek Singaproeans's local support. There are many groups.

For you information, I have never joined the Singapore Association because I want to avoid big bosses and civil servants.

It is true that we need to 出外靠朋友 but 朋友有很多种。Some groups offer Business networking opportunites, some groups offer none adaptive Singaporeans to remain connected to our "roots", some groups are just for entertainment (or cheonging) purposes while others provide occasional comfort when the going gets tough.

One of the brother mentioned that if he wanted to mix around only with Singaporeans, he'd better off staying in Singapore, which is very true. We are overseas for a reason, be it for family, for career, for aspirations, to escape "whatever not suitable to be mentioned" or what have you not and therefore the kind of groups that will serve each purpose best will differ.

China is not a "friendly" place, so try not to take anything for granted lest one does not mind being constantly taken for rides. It is easy to loose focus and direction with ample temptations available at all times.

Personally, I would prefer just to be in a small group of good friends as I find that most comforting. Too big a group will result in too many difference in personalities, which requires different ways of "dealing" with and that can become rather tiring, especially when we have to constantly "deal" with a multitude of Chinese waiting in line to skin us alive. But then again, that's probably just my view and I do not speak for all other borthers in the Forum or in China for that matter. :)

We are overseas for a reason, be it for family, for career, for aspirations, to escape "whatever not suitable to be mentioned" or what have you not and therefore the kind of groups that will serve each purpose best will differ.

China is not a "friendly" place, so try not to take anything for granted lest one does not mind being constantly taken for rides. It is easy to loose focus and direction with ample temptations available at all times.

Couldn't agree with you more....not that i don't like Singaporean (I'm a singaporean too!!)....working with my singaporean collegues are great..all my good friends are singaporean...but my work turn stale at a certain point and i'm slogging like a slave...I didn't find any balance....
So i decided to jump ship and look for greener pastures....working here can be challenging and frustrating at times....the chinese here can be so lazy at times....so frustrating sometimes to ask my subordinates to do something which would be a breeze with my singaporean collegues....either they don't give you the respect or just pure lazy.....but i had manage to slowly cope with the problem...I don't face these problems back home...it slowly will build your character and personality....take is as a challenge and stepped out of my comfort zone....
Maybe i'm a person that like to move around and experience stuff rather than being so routine back home....

I agree that China builds character. Just have to be mindful that a character that is "Made In China" can be something quite hard to comprehend for Singaporeans back home. Family members will detect subtle changes what you won't even know exist.. some of these changes turn one into a "monster" in the eyes of others. ago have change alot.I was there for 3 month and can see their character easily.

I really pity the Manager as they can't see "thru" their own man,and getting too close to them.

Dealing with these people is not easy and for those who are able to adapt and conquer, I'm just sounding out to not let the "newly evolved mentality" overshadow what is inherent inborne in us and accepted our society, family and friends.

The "made in China" I'm referring to is the new outlook and cultural traits brought about by immersing in China for extended periods of time. Every country has her own cultural buildup and they are as different as fresh and sea water fish. Both looks primarily similar but the similarities are ownly skin deep. Inside, it's different. Use the "made in China" personality in China as it will serve one well, but don't bring it back to Singapore or anywhere else in the world. "Made in China" thinking sometimes can make us thinking faster and further but the there is a time and place for everything...

As I said, maybe my expectation is too high, but as compare to JB's massage, I think I still prefer the service in JB.

The slower one takes, the higher the chance of the changes becoming ingrained, resulting is behavioral changes. A case of speed boats and super tankers changing course....

No doubt even a super tanker can change back to the original course but it will take longer, while in the mean time, knocking and "hurting" objects (family, friends) around it.

Some may become so fascinated and engrossed by the changes one have to make to survive in China that they fail to realize other knock-on effects and dangers as a result of such changes. For the quick and nimble, it is alright as he will be able to jump in and out of roles with greater ease due to the mental dexterity he possesses.

Well... that's just my view anyway. Others may agree or disagree but it is something that I believe. I think some brothers who have been here for a long time may have experienced different degrees of disassociation one time or another when they return home. It is a feeling of "hmmm... strange..... I no longer feel that I belong here somehow, and yet, I don't feel that I truly belong in China as well..." It is a disheartening thought....

They are rather adventurous in terms of going places ie. tossing my salad, teabag, etc. They are terms used to describe the way how we position ourselves for pleasure...hehehe..Currently in SHA, I have a horse from Xian and I can't get enough of her...to the point she is telling me to slow down as her hole can't take the punishment...hahaha...Ahhhh...the bosoms...not too big nor small...just the right size...anyway, we should be reaching 200 pg soon..hehe
