As for the crowd,if you have been in Batam during any of the New Year eve or Christmas eve, simply add both together. Horizon ferry usually adds around 50% more ferry trips to cater for the enormous crowd between Sillypore to Harbour Bay (and vice versa back to Harbour Front) over the last 2 years on CNY eve,the 1st and 2nd day. This year round,it is link with a super long weekend. I cannot imagine what kind of masses Batam Center will be like on that 3 days,hehehe...

Last year wen i was there,the crowd @ hf reminds me of wen the SG MRT broke dwn big time. Tis year w the super LWE,i'm sure the crowd is gng 2 be bigger.

Syt in batam ard 1 mill rp can get,no need pay until 150 so high. Jus that sg ppl richer nw, so choose to pay that amt thinking they're getting xclusive.

Those time when syt at 50 was when exchg rate below/ard 5k/sgd,today rate all 9k/sgd above,last 2 years also got sm mths that reach until 10k/sgd. So plus minus,even tho still up on price but not as high as some wld claim it to be.

No obligation at all. Just that you say you were awaiting for 2 weeks after CNY to plan/go to HCM hence during that 'blank period', thought you might have time for a short getaway, away from the usual's usual. And in any case if you happen to change your mind,do remember to PM. Other than the ferry ticket to reach Batam,everything else CAN still be arranged even if its a last min on an super ultra peak season, eg accommodation, mode of transport, food, girls etc.

Worst case scenario, you sleep on the sofa of my living room,hehehe... :D

Some other notes :

CNY most crowded is on the eve,1st and 2nd day,this year have to add in 3rd day due to the super long weekend.

CNY last from 28th Jan to 11th of Feb. 2 week after would be 25th Feb and onward. Those who have not visit Batam on eve,1st and 2nd day of CNY before and have been on 3rd and onward were mainly going to Batam facing way lesser crowd. (just like visiting China on 1st day of CNY versus visiting it on the 4th day onward)

Following the 2 weekends after 3rd day of CNY should be almost like Christmas day and New Year day (not their eves).

According to part of my notes which I used to read almost every year from bro Newyorker and bro Fishingman,there is a need to be extra careful for pickpockets when in crowded places. Frequency of raids on sex-related entertainment were way higher,so avoid drugs (stay far away). Police also have a higher tendency to work with working girls to extort tourists over drugs and other illegal stuffs too. Police in 3rd world countries a times will go all the way out during such season for "ang pao" (red packet).

Play safe, play longer, and live better with minimum regrets, ALWAYS use a condom for sexual intercourse in Batam.

I choose to added all of the above in the event you happen to have that small time break in between those 1st 3 days mentioned (last min) and wish to come by for a same day turnabout trip but yet consider our timing could not match each other and/or you may felt paiseh (shy) to trouble me.

Setback will be, Batamfast Ferry company can only make 4 trips per day via Harbour Front and Harbour Bay (vice versa when returning too) and there is no business class seats to beat the massive crowd. The good is,you can smoke on the 2nd deck outside the ferry itself (away from air-con area) when it starts to move (dont worry,got chair to sit outside 2nd deck and open air too)...hehehe...but I cannot do that on Horizon fast ferry throughout the whole ferry ride (the ferry ride is about 50 mins plus minus excluding waiting time at the departure hall).

Suggesting the above in case you do not mind the big crowd, and wish to pay lesser ,yet still be looking at convenience, hehehe...

Nono, thanks for the "promo" for my half price tickets. Yup, bought them to be used for my Jan trips. But, I was hit by heavy work schedule, hence "forced" to cut my trips to batam. The tickets expires on 1/3. But, I can use it to book trips beyond that date. So, no worries if not sold. I will always have the $28 ferry tickets even if they are selling for 380k in Batam now. How not to go there frequently when ferry tickets are as cheap as taxi rides in Singapore.

I wasnt trying to promote,hehehe...but i would say its a good deal at S$35 (S$100 for 3 tickets). But much often i believe that for a certain good ,there will be a certain not-so-good. So when i mention its goodness in my previous post,i also talk about its not-so-goodness. Just like what i talk about in my summaries.

Actually,i was thinking of buying all 3 tickets when i 1st sees it,but then its CNY,there's just too much risk involve for me. I am kiasu. I am afraid of hiccups,and failure should not be an option. I learned my lesson in my 1st CNY trip 2 years ago. NEVER be overly confident and always stay and travel within whats familiar to me within CNY period.

If only its expiry date can be stretch a little further.

My ferry ticket has much often been covered by my own trip. Sustainable cheonging,allowing my cheonging to pay for itself. Only available in Batam,hehehe...thats one of the most enjoyable thing i do in Batam. And free things often taste better than having to pay for it. :D

Try checking the online hotel websites. Ferry ticket should still be available if you book online, and if you die die need to come,try Horizon Ferry.It wont come cheap however. The later the day,the higher the availability of the tickets.

I just check the hotel sites about an hour after you made your post,there used to be 7 to 8 pages of hotels in Batam to choose from,but when i checked...there are only 2 to 3 pages left. So i will assume hotel room prices wont be low around Nagoya area (higher than normal days).

Today i went over the 2 PPC building,roam and queue (long queue) around 8 to 9 shops to check their price,9200/SGD to 9250/SGD can easily get,but 9260 and above would pose a challenge. 9300/SGD is the best i could find but provided i change S$500 or more. Looks like Malaysia ringgit is more in favor with the money changers there.

Chinatown sure is crowded. Will like to see how much Hai Hai is willing to give me 2mrow,hehehe...:D

Hai Hai was giving me 9200/SGD,they say best rate on 1st day day CNY. I need their small notes,becos Sillypore money changers gives me all notes in 100k denomination ,so i changed from them (hai hai) S$110 and break part of it into 10k and 50k denomination. They ran out of 20k notes.

Yea,agree...the who waiting area feels like Sillypore's Little India,hehehe...and nearly every ferry was delayed,including those from horizon. I am lucky, foreign worker couldnt afford horizon's ticket price and my ferry was no more than 50% filled. Business class has only 4 passengers,hehehehe...:D

Horizon was delayed for 15 mins prompt to arrival in Harbour Bay. Batamfast and Majestic to Batam center was a crazy jam. I hear from taxi drivers some of their customers were due to arrive at around 730pm,but they turn up only at 930pm plus.

Took the 420pm Majestic fast ferry from Harbourfront yesterday. No delays. They added an extra trip for 440pm.
With the exodus n added trips to Batam Center, the crowd was crazy.
The Q went all the way to the bridge. Alot of FW too. Locals need not join the Q there by the Q hardly move. Was stucked waiting to get my pp chop for 21/2hr :(

CNY too crowded for me. I might go over on one of CNY days, but for praying purpose only, not for mongering. Of course, done makan too.

While it may be crowded,much often I will keep a look out for foreign worker joint patrons. They were my biggest competitors. There are many who arrive late has had no girls for the night from legit booking joints.

Forget Hai Hai,every year during CNY,their rate also so stiff.

I just came back from my money changer walk,everywhere including main road shops during towards Nagoya Hill Mall (around the diagonal opposite of Indo rasa) all whole stretch money changer there can only get 9200 at max,including those opposite formosa hotel (even when i offered to change in S$1k notes). Time i was there was at around 7pm batam time.

The below shop is currently having the best rate at 9250/SGD. Linda's boss really worked very hard every CNY,i have a feeling her hobby is to make money,hehehe...every year CNY also work so hard to beat most of her competitors,just too bad all my regular money changer shops closed. *sob*

Yea,i think you should. Much often i dont pray for having win lots of money or be very RICH. Horizon Ferry tickets during CNY eve,1st,2nd and its 3rd day is at S$60. S$10 more for business class. No point taking VIP as it defeats my purpose. The best part of the Business class is,a pretty-enough lady from Horizon will lead me to cut all other queues to get my passport chop 1st. I do not need to run or worse,wait in line with others. Not forgetting, there are practically zero foreign workers from Sillypore on board.

There are only 4 person including myself in this trip on Business class,i alighted the ferry 1st,and i 'walked a bit slower' than Quicksilver (hehehe...)...when i saw the long queue from the last Batamfast and/or horizon ferries still uncleared by Batam customs,i really thank heaven that i paid more.

Yea,comparing S$35 with S$70,its double and double is definitely way more...but normal time (or non-peak days),i dont have to wait with their S$48 tickets,but this time round,its a super ultra big crowd,in fact its the biggest thru the whole year...so i think its still worth it. I saved time which i need to during this period so as to consistently beat the right timing to do the right thing. (天时地利人和)

Yes,little india was the exact description one of my friends told me yesterday. I think the girls appreciate Sillyporeans and Malaysians more during this time of the year. CNY 2017,i played my game differently as compare to my last 2 year's CNY trips,hehehe...i dont like crowd,i dont like competition. If i have to pay high,i have to try my best to make it as value for my money as possible. Hehehe...i choose to 'outsource' this year.

I was in Batam the week before CNY. Most shops were selling these tickets at 350k. Only managed to locate 1 shop selling at 340k. I didn't get the shop name, but it had a big signage covering most of the glass panel at the counter. You really had to stoop down to the opening and talk to the guy.

No good news,just checked with Rick. Check out time is confirmed 2pm at Formosa hotel at max. Their explanation was the system will Auto Charge extra for guest checking out after 2pm. The T & C stated 3pm was an error they made,they admitted it. They apologize...looks like i cant play spoilt brat with them on this case anymore. Worse thing is there's no compromising at all. Rick was quite stern with me on this one. :mad:

I also cannot get my gold card after accumulating 15 nights stay too,becos the T & C stated - 15 qualifying Nights at Formosa Hotel during any consecutive 12-months period as a Silver Member status.

So i can only qualify for the Gold card on Sept 2017 where i 1st got my Silver card during Sept 2016.

Haiz...my 1st disappointment in Batam for this CNY 2017. The bigger my expectation,the heavier my disappointment...i cannot always win all the time however much i wishes to.

There will never be an all bad and no good situation in my book (or the other way). I still get my free room stay on my next trip to Batam,so total i can stay for free will be 2 nights in Formosa. Another thing will be,my other friend whom i have help to make enquiry will get his room rate at 540k (weekday rate and 590k for weekend) instead of his usual 580k flat rate.

When there's good,there's also bad and vice versa...all mixed up in this Batam trip.

Booking at legit booking joints will always require you to pay upfront. You can bring the girl back on the spot after you paid. If you have things to do, can tell the okt to only send the girl at X hours. Some will ask for taxi fares for the girl though. It does help to get the okt number in case the girl comes late, or gives you problem.

The main reason why I always preferred to stay at Formosa has been the way staff always treated me, as a family and not as employees of a public post office (try to get a smile from the desk staff at Harmoni!).

Flexibility in handling business or whatever activity is a value, but there is people, especially in some countries, that are rigid as wood. If there is a rule, or a policy, they stick to it without taking even into consideration that exceptions and flexibility at times can be advantageous for both parties. I get mad when I see this.

Investing in housing here is very different from SG/TW/CN. Make sure you have someone you can trust to offer you good advice - not some realty agent.

Rate was open at 9300 n 9320 for> $500
I think more or less the CNY rate was depleting.
Forgot to check at SKP as the Shop is at the arrival end.
