I know most tourist would not miss their free breakfast that includes in the hotel.

Hehehe...then i am sure your definition of most tourist do not include the many "tourists" from this forum whom i believe would very likely forego their free breakfast.

Most tourist in a tour group takes their breakfast very early in the morning as most hotel's free breakfast starts at 6am in the morning (which is around 7am in Singapore time). Tourist here means those who are guided by tour guide to visit touristy destination and not those going to Batam to cheong. And lunch for most tourist in Batam will usually starts around 1030am to 1130am indo time,which is 1130am to 1230pm Singapore time. The Batam local's lunch hour were between 12pm to 2pm indo time. Tour guides likely also wish to avoid the crowded time of 12pm to 2pm too.

U planning to drop yr 'bomb' on this restaurant's price tag to shock every readers here?

Hehehe...much often in my Batam trips,i always like to ask how much would a certain meal cost at a certain eateries...now,other than you and the bros who were with you that day,make a guess how much would this meal cost in a restaurant at Nagoya Hill Mall?

I eat to live,and the ambience is definitely good during those hours for my lunch. I like the place quiet there,can also smoke inside and there was no other living soul other than the staffs (except myself and my girl ,of course). So it makes me feel like a VIP that day. Me and my girl were the only 2 customers in this restaurant at the point of our meals and the tabled food pictured was meant for 2 person.

Need help from AV expert..
I connect karaoke video output YCbCr
To Our TV video input YPbPr.
I go black/whate video.

After some reading realized that my karaoke output is Digital component video whereas the TV is analog.

My TV have 2 HDMI ports
And understand that HDMI are digital.
They're cable that convert HDMI
to YCbCr.

Question...
Can this cable be used the other way round to convert YCbCr output to HDMI input?

If can, I'll search around in Btm.
Understand that HDMI cable usually a little expensive.
Anyone can advice how much roughly does it cost in Singapore.

You posting pictures from your computer? Try this,go to your photos AFTER transferring them to your computer. Open up whichever folder that holds the photo you wish to post ; Right-click and click on Edit.

After Editing,you can click on the save button to SAVE your changes its completely done up. Do not be afraid to make mistake becos as long as you haven't SAVE your work,you can always UNDO your mistakes with the UNDO button shown on the picture below :

Notice I just "inverted" your original photo from the left-side to the right-side above? A bit of practice on some "unwanted photos" from your computer helps a long way tho,hehehe...

The same method above can be use when you connect your phone to your computer too. Meaning you can EDIT your photos directly from your phone with a computer the same way above w/o the need to transfer the photos over to your computer (for stability sake,I would still recommend you to transfer photos to a computer 1st tho and then remove it later if it's no longer in use).

Just sharing, hopefully it can help you post photos more conveniently (and/or efficiently) when you met with hiccups the next time round.

HDMi cable selling 30k to 50k rupiah at DC mall,depending on length. I bought many there already,hehehe...just ask the staffs there about it. I don't speak bahasa also can get it,you guys should be easier.

If you want bring the girl back to hotel, try these nightclub M1, M2, Grand I. No idea whether they will be operating during hari raya or not. You can google search and call them up to check. Last weekend , went down to batam centre and saw this huge market called Pasar pasir putih , there is also spacious foodcourt . Ate there and the Kue tiao is actually pretty good. There are also mn other good food. It is also close to my hotel ,Hotel Sahid . Thou its very crowded but the place is still quite chilly, my favourite place to eat now in batam centre. Just my twocent for anyone looking for an A2 style foodcourt in Batam Centree ......:D:D

Next time try the Mee Siam, pork porriage, chicken rice (Chinese store), tze cha, etc.

At night u can karaoke too...

There's a massage shop opposite. Anyone tried?

Ok this time I tried EVEN WeChat.
When I search around, I always receive 3-4 messages from people nearby who say hello to me. I am used to ignore all of them (they include gays, TV and girls offering ST/BO).

Lol, usually if u get Indo Chinese, they are not from Medan or local, very few, those working are usually from other parts of Indonesia like Jakarta or Surabaya

If there are medan indo chinese in this trade,most would probably go to Malaysia instead becos they can fetch a better earning there rather than come all the way to Batam to earn less,hehehe...Jakarta ones would probably stayed there tho. Unless they already have relatives in massage shops or joints, then will these indo-Chinese be coming to Batam to work. Friends call relatives, relatives call friends,neighbours etc etc.

Those I found in salons were mainly from Kalimantan and somewhere called, Manado (if I don't remember wrong). I did ask them before,since they are so pop in Batam,how come don't start their own establishment? They tell me its not cheap (for their case) to start one and there are certain risk factors which they need to consider. And once they started one,they will be bound by their own business.

From my knowledge,Indo Chinese in Batam also choose their customers. Out of 10 friends,only 7 got "something" and 3 came back to hotel empty-handed.

:confused: I really cannot understand why some people keeps on seeking IndoChinese in Batam...

I am one of those constantly keeping a look-out for Maduranese and Indo-Chinese. Both of them when in a Massage Parlor provides a different types,style and quality services as compared to others. Definitely not the usual type of massage and/or special service I would get from the local Indo massage parlor.

My massage done by the both Indo Chinese and the Maduranese were almost never piano quality. Set back is, these girls were mostly MILF between the age of 27 to 35. There used to one from Madura that was aged close to 50,hehehe...and the youngest Indo Chinese girl I got before in this "trade" was 27.

Another reason why some would prefer indo Chinese is becos of the more-understandably language used. Most indo-Chinese cant really speak Chinese well,but most of them could understand. Not forgetting there's the use of Teochew/Hokkien dialect in many of them which many Singapore Chinese would be able to understand and they can communicate with the girls.

When there's lesser language barrier,ice can be broken more easily and chemistry could better be establish.

..with all due respect, IndoChinese are mostly very ugly.

I can only partially agree with this part,hehehe...i would still say, they were mostly ugly mainly after they take their make up off. I find that indo Chinese girls usually put on thicker make up than other Chinese girls.

Everyone's market rate can be different online. As for my own,it would be 50%-66.7% off after bargaining over SG's prices. Every shop's girls in batam will try to quote customer SG price so it's up to u to bring tat down.

I go to a SG men's spa,usually cost $70-$80 without the special,add on special abt $50-$70. Total can come out to be abt $120-$150. In Batam,I'll be expecting around $50. Of course,i'm talking abt men's spa now.

For smaller scale & in-hotel massage shops,i do a similar comparison. Special service HJ is abt $50 & a FJ abt $100 in SG. In Batam would then be abt 150k-250k after bargaining for HJ & 300k-500k for FJ. Anything higher would be considered higher than normal for me.

There's however one thing i have to agreed with bro nono, that is the higher one pays ,there's the likelihood of a more inferior-ed service.

Just quote an example in one of my 1st few earlier trips to batam. I visited a hotel MP,the girl quoted me 500k,i didn't bargain,happy-ending ends with no roaming,no full strip off & if i want 'those' additions,i will have to top up another extra 100k+100k,so end up have to pay 700k if i wanted 'those' ++.

Another time in the same place,same girl. I was quoted 500k again, i bargained to 200k. Again there was no strip no roam,& i have to top up 100k for roaming & another 100k for full strip. End day after all the bargaining, we agreed to a price of 300k for the same service i paid 700k for. I told her i would tip her more if her service lvl is up to my expectation as a bonus beforehand & by end of my session,due to her hardwork & the extra mile services,i tipped her an extra 50k. So my total damage for a better than my previous 700k session cost only 350k,yet with the girls going the extra mile to please me in there. I visited the same girl at same place once more before i left batam to help her remember me better with the same bargained price.

Ya,ya...the gers or okt always try 2 quote sg price (or higher) in btm,bcs Sinkies can afford ma. Which sgrean nvr paid $100+ 4 a fuck b4? Plenty,rite? 50% reduction on the price is pretty fair,& 2/3 price reduction will need skills. More than tat,need patience & techniques.

The lesson i learned during that trip was,if i wish to start with a more inferior-ed service,i should not bargain at all. I bargained for my future RTM & RTF sake. Thereafter after that eventful session,all other girls from the same shop don't cost me more than 350k anymore.

I don't pay more than 500k for fj & 350k for hj anymore. My usual fj cost between 250k-400k,hj cost 150k-250k. For me to pay to my maximum of 500k/350k,the girls will need to be at least an SYT below 22 & not have given birth before.

Surrounding Utama hotel's more rundown MP,i pay 100k-250k for HJ & 200k-350 for FJ.

Hotel's Palor & Men's Spa that dont provide hj packages,i pay 150k-200k for HJ & 350k-500k for FJ.

Chinese locals in batam,i pay 200k for hj & 400k for fj.

Wechat FJ i'd bargain for a flat rate of 400k. It's my last choice,so they can take it or leave it.

all I can say is,if wan pay same as sg price,y not stay in sg? sg aso hv indo gers & better still,more variety of race of gers 2 choose frm.

Btm is still abt 2-3 times lesser the price compare 2 sg.

like yrself,i once found a few good joints & places ,I jus stay there. All gers there wld knw me well & I play there like I'm a king. I no mind paying higher,so long the gers can up-size their serv lvl & u knw the gers can onli do so if the startin price begin low. :D

I put yr words & advises in my own words, 2 get good & better serv in btm,i bargain down 2 start the initial base price LOW so tat I get BETTER serv lvl wen I up my extras $. NEVER agree 2 pay 4 high starter $, then later get better serv by paying even higher & expect the best serv lvl by payin even 2 the highest....lol.

most btm gers serv lvl drops once they r becm over-fed. :D

I went to recce Da Vienna finally. Long time I wanted to do that.
My heart is stuck with Formosa, but Da Vienna is another category.

I compared the fares on the Da Vienna web site with those I can get at Formosa with the membership card (540k).
The standard room at DV is 440k/night. The Junior Suite is 780k. The Grand Deluxe Suite, which is 33 sqm and is their largest room before entering the suite category (a small apt.) is 550k. Booking on Agoda, there is some significant saving.

In short, there is only one last argument that blocks me before making the giant leap and book DV instead of Formosa the next time, besides my fond memories in Formosa: would staff say anything if one night I go to my room with 2 or even 3 girls?
I wonder if I would have the same freedom to invite friends, or if girls can go straight to the elevator without being questioned, as I am used in Formosa.
That is a big plus for me, and I believe for some others who read this.

Maybe we don't want to spoil the reputation of the DV hotel here (contrary to my opinion, for some others having full freedom on guests is not a good thing). PM is also welcomed.

Hotel 89 Massage is very good. If you stay 160K for 90 minutes 190K for 120 minutes. They have sauna, etc. No hanky panky. Good massage.

Believe it or not,nice good tasting dinner costing less than 120k for 2 person (less than S$13). Thats about the price of a Singapore's Zhi Char store except this one is in a hotel's restaurant. Oh ,and in case someone wish to ask whats the reddish-looking pot of water is,its not blood...hehehe...its called Rosella tea. Healthy stuffs,hehehe...my friend keep telling me its Ribena blackcurrant. Well,actually the taste were quite similar.

...and if I didn't remember wrong,this should be my 1st dinner at the restaurant itself ever since I start dwelling in this hotel 3 years ago. Not too bad for a simple meal. Still,i don't consider it cheap...hehehe...but definitely not falling on my expensive category. Taste wise, so far so good (edible stuffs). I could actually order the same thing to my room but I just want to give it a try since i have never tried eating there for dinner before. Just want to see how quiet the place is, well...I like quiet places.

There was a K-Mart,a 7-11 look-alike kind of store (24hour) at the ground floor of the hotel...things were more expensive in it but becos its still considerably new with lesser range of stuffs,i bought most of my groceries from another provision shop near to the 4-faced Buddha shrine within the hotel block.

So much for the 1st day, what I wish to monitor in this trip is the metered taxi fare and taxi trip via Nadim Airport to Formosa Hotel cost 120k,took about 25 mins (I didn't pay for it). The taxi fare I paid for from Harbour Bay to Hotel plus sending my girl back to Nadim and myself back to Harbour Bay later cost a total of 50k.

I plan to do EVEN better in my next trip. And this trip is more about that.

Not forgetting the 2 way shuttle service at 50k if I order their room on their website. I have yet to talk to the receptionist about my True Real Plan yet,hehehe...its not free but at 50k rupiah,it would cost me only 25k from point A to point B practically within Batam if my plan work out the way I want it to be.

I found out something,fruits in Batam served in a restaurant seems to be pretty expensive huh? I remember buying my own fruits and have the hotel kitchen staffs shave off its skin and slice it up nicely for me before serving it to my room for FREE! Hmm...come to think of it,a lot of things in batam has increase in price. Jco 20 pcs mini doughnut has increase its price from 49k rupiah to 52k. Not a good sign.

This place is new. Entry pricing wise to get a massage started was about 10% higher than Kings.

...but they do have some discount (25%-30% off) during certain days. (sorry,due to low lightings in the presence of the shop,the shot isn't clear) A normal massage per hour should cost between 120k to 130k before the discount.

I didn't have the time to try,and only walk in to enquire (seems like its a no-pool,no sauna spa). Saw at least half a dozen girls inside "killing flies",meaning no business. Looks good for me since I usually prefer to go to "no business" yet newly opened places in Batam. Maybe I might just try this one in my next trips (or the one after).

Not sure which version of layer cake you are asking,so i shall try to reply as best as i could. Diana brand of normal Kueh lapis cost 125k rupiah for half kilo. The prune version cost 150k for half kilo. Below picture for your reference :

For those who are new to batam, or don't know much about this place, I recommend not to go for FL or WeChat gals. You never know what they can do to you or frame you with drugs( in cohort w police) to scam money from you

I wrote before that one of my highlights of my holidays, 10 days ago, was the night I spent with THREE girls: my friend, with whom I already spent 3-4 nights since when I met her first one year ago, and two friends of hers, who she kindly invited with us to make me happy (very happy indeed).
Well, after dinner I wanted to have some free 15-20 mins for me (call home, withdraw money from ATM,...), so I gave them my room key and I told them to go and wait me there. Since I am not a light weekend traveler and in my room I have my computer and personal stuff, plus various gifts to bring home, that means 101% trust. The irony was that my key did not work, and when I came back I found them at the reception where they already got it renewed by staff (I wonder if this is the usual policy for a hotel :confused:).
No, I don't think I will do that again, and certainly not if I don't have long time of acquaintance with someone.

For those who are new to batam, or don't know much about this place, I recommend not to go for FL or WeChat gals.

That's a serious problem. Scammers can be anywhere. Although not so common, any of us WILL meet some sooner or later. NOBODY should feel immune. Shit happens.

It happened to me too! Unfortunately for me, I don't have a local hook as you to call for support in case of need.

I remember those two 30+ yo ladies who came to my room from disco several years ago (sorry, I still had to learn to discriminate well people, and anyone can make mistakes).
They started first to play silly (red flag warning: at that point I knew I would have not had any good time) then tried to threaten with arguments like "you give us 1.5 millions to each of us or we call police because we have friends in police".
I laughed back to them saying that me too I have some friends working in police, then I got them out of the room showing 100k as a "tip for your taxi". They were lured by the 100k out of the room.... So mean.
Once out of the door, the problem was solved, seen from my perspective. I closed quickly the door and left them there in the corridor while I took the stairs to go down. I said bye I go and that was it. I really felt relieved.

if you outsource the girl from outside batam, why not have her land in singapore instead?

A good question,it shows you read at least my previous last few summaries that my girl/s were mainly outsourced (kind-of) out of Batam nowaday. If you were to read beyond my last few summaries (especially the beginning ones),you may also learn that i allow my Batam trips over the past years to pay for itself. (some bros who joined me in my Batam trips will be able to understand better)

In a way,if i allow the girl to come to Singapore,then i will have to "pay",which will not be quite in line of with what i have always been doing when i 1st decide to step into Batam. On top of those mentioned,do you know :

1. Most Indonesian do not need a passport to travel within Indonesia land? (they use their IDs)

2. Domestic flights within Indonesia is really quite convenient? (and inexpensive too)

3. Most Indonesian do not hold a passport to travel out of Indonesia?

4. Making a passport for Indonesian to travel out of their country is quite expensive? (and can be a real hassle too)

5. Most Indonesian girls who already have a passport most likely already quite "experience",which i do NOT really like.

If out of 100 Indonesians,only 2 or 3 owns a passport,i would be limiting my own choices. If i allow my girl to land in Singapore,i also runs the risk of her getting reject entry into Singapore immigration custom. Those chances might look seemingly low but my chances of getting thru Batam custom and not getting rejected entry is definitely higher than her getting into Singapore. Right? :D

There are of course many more reason/s to add,but the above stated is already enough to cause me drastic-enough hassle if my girls were to land in Singapore,hehehe...PAY and confirm 100% to get "something" good versus PAY and runs the probably likelihood of getting "nothing" at all and/or something less good,...which is better?

I analyzed hence I made my choice. ;)

Truth is that, among many honest and fun girls who simply try to get some extra cash by way of WeChat or meeeting guests in disco, there is also a number of sharks who hunt small fish.

I would not recommend to avoid any risky activity, but, specifically in case of WeChat:
1) meet them outside the hotel
2) take the time to chat and feel who is in front of you, before welcoming her to your room
3) excercise the maximum caution and, possibly, your 6th sense
4) if you never ventured beyond Geylang legal houses, avoid WeChat and the Unknown Lands.

I eat to live,and the ambience is definitely good during those hours for my lunch. I like the place quiet there,can also smoke inside and there was no other living soul other than the staffs (except myself and my girl ,of course). So it makes me feel like a VIP that day. Me and my girl were the only 2 customers in this restaurant at the point of our meals and the tabled food pictured was meant for 2 person.

Yea,2 pax eating at a touristy area in an air-con restaurant at abt 75k is still justifiably cheap. U notice the Chinese restaurant in that same row closed shop? The same restaurant u brought those auntie & uncle to eat, rber?

Recently go btm need to be met with the rite timing. The place with the most girls after 3rd week of Ramadan was btm's airport. :p

Already in all Batam theater by now, Transformer 5 - the last knight. Hmm...I missed out on some parts of this movie sequel tho,so I am not exactly that keen to watch it....yet,hehehe...I do however know most parts of the stories from the cartoons and comics tho.

The storyline :

Humans are at war with the Transformers, and Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving the future lies buried in the secrets of the past and the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Now, it's up to the unlikely alliance of inventor Cade Yeager, Bumblebee, an English lord and an Oxford professor to save the world.

This time round,i will add in the plot from wiki about this movie to help would-be-audience better understand the movie,hehehe...long story however,so I will just hide this part out, so you get the choice to click on the Spoiler Button ONLY if you are truly interested to know more.

The Plot :

In 484 AD, King Arthur's wizard Merlin forges an alliance with the Knights of Iacon, a group of twelve Transformers who have hidden on Earth. The knights give Merlin an alien staff, and combine into a dragon to help Arthur triumph over the Saxons.

In the present day, most of the governments on Earth have declared Transformers illegal, and the multinational Transformer Reaction Force (TRF) has been formed to eliminate the alien robots. Despite the absence of Optimus Prime (who left the planet to search for his creator), new Transformers continue to arrive regularly; the newest ship to arrive crash-lands in Chicago, where it is found by a group of children. When a TRF mecha confronts the kids, they are saved by Izabella, a survivor of the Battle of Chicago, and her Transformer companions Sqweeks and Canopy, but Canopy is killed by the TRF in the process. Bumblebee and Cade Yeager arrive and help them escape, but Yeager is unable to save the Transformer, Steelbane, in the ship. Before he dies, Steelbane attaches a metallic talisman to Yeager’s body—an act observed by Decepticon Barricade, who reports to his leader Megatron.

On the far reaches of the Solar System, Optimus Prime discovers that the Transformers' home world, Cybertron, now disassembled into pieces, is heading directly for Earth. Optimus finds the being in control of Cybertron's movement, a sorceress named Quintessa, who professes to be the maker he is searching for. The staff which the knights gave to Merlin was stolen from Quintessa, and using her powers, she places Optimus under her control, dubs him "Nemesis Prime," and charges him with recovering it. Earth, she reveals, is actually Cybertron's "ancient enemy" Unicron, and she intends to drain his life force so that Cybertron can be restored.

TRF member and former Autobot ally William Lennox brokers a deal between the TRF and Megatron, releasing from their custody a squad of Decepticons who will help Megatron recover the talisman from Yeager. The Decepticons hunt Yeager to his junkyard hideout in South Dakota, where he and many of the surviving Transformers are holed up. During the chaos of the ensuing battle, Yeager is approached by Cogman, the Transformer envoy of British Lord Sir Edmund Burton, who takes him and Bumblebee to England to meet his master. There, Yeager also meets Viviane Wembly, an Oxford professor, who Burton has had the Autobot Hot Rod kidnap. Burton explains that he is the last living member of the "Witwiccan" order, an ancient brotherhood dedicated to guarding the secret history of Transformers on Earth. He also reveals that Viviane is the last descendant of Merlin, and must find and use his staff to prevent the impending destruction of Earth by Cybertron.

Fleeing the TRF, Yeager and Wembly follow clues left by the latter's father that lead them, Bumblebee, and Cogman to take the submarine HMS Alliance into the sea to find the Cybertronian Knights' sunken ship, in which they discover the tomb of Merlin and the staff. Wembly activates the staff, and the ship rises to the surface; the TRF arrives to confront the group, but several knights awaken and attack them. The attack is cut short by the arrival of the mind-controlled Optimus, but fortunately, when the normally-mute Bumblebee is finally able to speak, the sound of his voice is enough to break Prime free of Quintessa’s control. A moment later, Megatron arrives to steal the staff; he too has been working for Quintessa all along. As Megatron flees with his prize, the knights attack Optimus for his betrayal, but Yeager, whose talisman becomes the sword Excalibur, stops the fight. Realizing he is the last knight, the knights yield to Yeager, who urges Optimus to protect the Earth once more.

Megatron delivers the staff to Quintessa, who begins draining the life force of Earth/Unicron via Stonehenge. When the military intervenes, Megatron shoots Burton, who dies with Cogman at his side. Using a ship procured by the Autobot Daytrader, the Autobots arrive to join the fight, landing on Cybertron and battling against the Decepticons and Quintessa's Infernocons. Optimus and his Autobots, backed up by the knights in their dragon form, vanquish their many foes. Optimus defeats Megatron while Bumblebee appears to slay Quintessa. Wembly removes the staff, stopping Cybertron's destruction of Earth, but leaving the two planets connected. Optimus declares that humans and Transformers must work together to rebuild their worlds, and sends a message calling any surviving Autobots to come home.

In a mid-credits scene, scientists inspect one of the horns of Unicron, which is extending out of the desert. Quintessa, who has survived and is disguised as a human, arrives and offers them a way to destroy Unicron.

I think for S$2.60 to S$3.60,this movie is going to be well-worth most Batam goer's time to watch it with their "girls",friends,relatives etc. Enjoy the movie, enjoy your time in the theater. Coming week ,either end of June or beginning if July should be Spiderman's Homecoming movie, BUT the movie I am really looking forward to? Hehehe...I doubt it will be screening in Batam's theater tho, until perhaps at a much later date ,even tho its suppose to turn up in most other theaters around Asia somewhere middle of July 2017...here's the clue to the movie title.

Sillypore movie tickets was S$12...in fact i rarely have time to watch a movie,only in Batam,hehehe... If there is time,a good movie screening in Batam is definitely worth the watch. And at a much lower expense.

Bro nono, agreee with u the ridiculous movie prices in sinkieland. Never watch movie here. But to me, in jb also can watch very cheap movies. Wednesdays usually is their movie day and depends on cinema, their tickets can cost between rm9.43 to rm 10, which is very similar to batam ticket prices. About $3-3.30 sg price.
Got tgv cinemas n mbo cinemas. Am a movie buff over there. Hehe.

i rather stay at hana hotel instead if dju dju..Dju Dju hotel is about the same price or cheaper by few dollars only compare to hana hotel...Dju2 hotel do not have security guard...So i dont recommed to stay there..

Indeed, I am sure the problem is more on the card reader, rather than on the card. I was in 275 for 1 week. I often had to insert the card 2 or 3 times before seeing the green light.
Once, there was no way to enter. Always red light. So I had to go to the reception to rewrite the card. They did, and I still I could not open.
So they changed the card: "New card Sir!".
I counter-replied: "Maybe change new door, not new card."
"Not possible Sir, ahaha".
I think they took my words as a joke, but I was partially serious.

If they know the guest. But not if "friends of a hotel guest" come with the room key without the legitimate hotel guest (the one who pays the room and is registered). Then anyone finding a lost card on the floor could enter the room and search for goods to remove. Even if the card is lost in the mall.

No way this could be a policy. In other cities (incl. KL, Sheraton), when I have to rewrite my card if the employee at the reception desk does not know me, he/she asks my IDs to be sure that I am the legitimate owner of the card.

However, I am not complaining about the Reception Staff. They saw me going out friendly with the group of girls and they optmistically, but appropriately, assumed that they did not kill me while we were out for dinner, to be able to go back to my room with my key to remove my valuables.

Thanks nono for the info. I find it quite affordable. I didnt know there were a few types, as i thought u bought just 1 type of kueh lapis. So far have bought from the hypermarket at batam center. The taste is so-so.

There are actually many types,and from other brands too. I realize the problem with layer cake is their freshness. So i only try to go for the fresh and tastiest ones. It is best eaten within 5 days (please keep them refrigerated if plan to go beyond 5 days). But 1kg of layer cake according to my mum's ex. colleagues in Jakarta equivalent to about 30 to 40 eggs.

Please do not underestimate the number of days many shopping malls 's cake shops keep their layer cake,hehehe...hence finding fresh ones are crucial for me to bring back to Sillypore. ;)

Above one were from Lamoist brand,fresh ones are good but for the non-fresh type (which i notice few shops selling at Mega Mall),one will grew sick of the taste over time. Whereas Tea Story ones has been kept for a few days before it was sold. Diana brand,i watch them bake it,hehehe...but i only buy the prune version for my parents,and the traditional version for my girl.

Many brands of layer cake in Batam,gonna try them all...as my taste bud can be different from yours. 300k rupiah per 1 kg layer cake is actually on the higher-end side.

Yesterday was weekend,so the rate was tagged (in Indonesia) at either the Friday rate or Saturday rate depending on which money changer you go to. Not many banks operate on a Sunday.

So,when you get below 9600 when XE is at 9680 on Sunday,it means you need to check Fri/Sat rate. ;)

I think i can answer this question as I'm quite close to a few moneychangers.

Usually, the local moneychanging rate for the week after a long weekend is lower than usual before the moneychangers have too much SGD on hand. They need to sell off their SGD before they can resume "business as usual".

For example, on last Thursday, the XE rate was hovering at around 9630-40. Usually, I will be able to get at least 9600-10 based on the average XE rate that day. However, I texted my usual moneychanger and he said the absolute best he can do was 9550. I also asked around in BCS and the usual offering was only 9520-30.

On the contrary, the XE rate today is around 9670-80 and the moneychanger says he can give me 9630; the rate should be marginally better tomorrow, I'm expecting 9650.

Hope this explains things a little.

I would suggest you to change around S$20 to S$50 in Singapore 1st if you are very new becos the rate is definitely better in Batam.

Singapore is still the worst place to change SGD to IDR unless its a few days before CNY eve.

Worst place in Batam to change money (inside batam ferry terminal) will be almost equivalent to the best money changer (Arcade 2nd floor) in Singapore. You don't really have a choice if you have zero rupiah.

Is there any money changer harborbay ?

Plenty of money changer in Harbour Bay (more than my 10 fingers,hehehe...). Every Batam ferry terminal always have plenty of money changer shops. The further a money changer is away from the terminal entrance, the better the rate. Nearer to your staying hotel,most money changer will give you an even better rate, BUT always check rates with at least 3 shops verbally in order to get the best.

Entrance = after you get past immigration custom (scanning your luggage)

On your right hand side from the entrance you seen above when you walk out,there will be 2 money changer (as below). They gives Batam's worst rate (unless its CNY 1st 2 to 3 days). My own perspective.

...right to the end of the pathway,where you will see many more money changers. If you are lazy,just change there,tho they aren't giving the best rate (likely to be Batam's 2nd/3rd worst rate).

Important Note : always keep some smaller denomination of rupiah with you (2k,5k,10k,20k notes).You will need them. Or you can ask for smaller denomination at Batam money changer when you buy their rupiah.

Usually, the local moneychanging rate for the week after a long weekend is lower than usual before the moneychangers have too much SGD on hand. They need to sell off their SGD before they can resume "business as usual".

For example, on last Thursday, the XE rate was hovering at around 9630-40. Usually, I will be able to get at least 9600-10 based on the average XE rate that day. However, I texted my usual moneychanger and he said the absolute best he can do was 9550. I also asked around in BCS and the usual offering was only 9520-30.

On the contrary, the XE rate today is around 9670-80 and the moneychanger says he can give me 9630; the rate should be marginally better tomorrow, I'm expecting 9650.

Hope this explains things a little.

I would suggest you to change around S$20 to S$50 in Singapore 1st if you are very new becos the rate is definitely better in Batam.

Singapore is still the worst place to change SGD to IDR unless its a few days before CNY eve.

Worst place in Batam to change money (inside batam ferry terminal) will be almost equivalent to the best money changer (Arcade 2nd floor) in Singapore. You don't really have a choice if you have zero rupiah.

The mall can just be as "good" as those in ferry terminal from my perspective,hehehe... Again,there are also 2 types of rate there (at mall), the better and the worse. Those shops at the front door,they offer the worst rate (i'm comparing within the mall now),those money changer further inside the mall,gives a little better rate than those at the front door.

My usual practice is, look for those individual-type money changer shops stretched in one whole row that are not in the mall. Like those money changers you seen in Singapore China Town area,like those shoe shops in Queentown Shopping mall. Many shops selling the same or similar product equates to a stiffer competition. Competition likely also means a better bargain. Ask at least 3 shops before making decision (physically ask for the price and don't just look at their price board).

Having said all the above,like some senior bros here have mention before. If you are planning to change less than S$1k,the difference were marginal between money changer shops in malls and those rows of shops mentioned above. You are likely only to save about S$1 to S$3. So it really depends if you find searching high and low,walking a 5 to 10 mins distance is worthy of your effort and time.

Overall time taken to look for the BEST can cost you about 30 mins (including time used to open mouth to ask) and just to save maybe about S$1 to S$3? When you are there in Batam, ask around the shops and you can better understand what i meant.

Before I reply your earlier post,i do check where your hotel is located. If you are staying in Formosa hotel,i will know how to direct you to walk within 1 min walk from it to get to my definition of BEST rate. But in general ,for my friends who don't stay around there,i will usually advise them to look for row of shops with at least few money changers around,and then ask at least 3 of them for their best rate. It will be stupid of me to ask you walk to Formosa from Ace to change money as it will cost you at least about 15 mins walk time. Or worse,spend 30k to 50k rupiah taxi fare to save S$1 to S$3 (unless you already booked a full day taxi,hehehe...it will then be worthy).

Example :

Money changer at ferry terminal offers 9500/SGD

Money changer at Batam Mall gives you 9520/SGD

Money changer at rows of shop's offered their best at 9550/SGD

Money changer opposite Formosa sells at 9560/SGD

You change S$100 at opposite Formosa,you saved 6k rupiah (when compared with the worst of the same day),which is about S$0.60. You changed S$200,you saved around S$1.20 and so on. You will then have to use your own judgement by asking around.

Note : I am talking about an individual person changing money here, if it is in a group of at least 3 person,my theory above will be a bit different.

To get to MY own definition of the best exchange rate in Batam,I will check XE or Yahoo finance websites. If the figure on those web sites say 9600/SGD,i should be able to get 9580/SGD opposite Formosa. Worst case scenario will be 9570/SGD.

I use the given rate from XE and Yahoo finance on Friday and Saturday to change my money on a Sunday. Or the rate on the eve of an Indonesia public holiday (or a day before eve) to gauge the rate for a public holiday.

Reason is simple,most banks in Indonesia don't open on public holidays and Sundays,and likely to open only half day on eves of public holiday and Saturdays. Most money changers cannot "buy" on "those time" to sell it to their customers, so they usually follow their last buying price.

So much research about best exchange rates in Batam....
Definitely, as Nono suggested, always ask in at least 3 places before changing, if you plan to change at least few hundreds dollars. And avoid the port. The more you move into town, the better rates can be found.

I remember someone here, just few years ago, who was considering and insisting to debate the possibility to investigate market inefficiencies in Batam, which he speculated could allow to make money by exchanging currencies circularly in Batam :eek:, that is currency A to currency B, then B to C, then back C to A, along different money changers. :eek: LOL

Of course, earning something by closing such a loop is IMPOSSIBLE, unless some money changer is applying wrong rates (that is, not in its interest) or unless we delay the steps enough to get the market exchange rates moving in the direction in our favour (this is always possible, but, as for scalping on the stock exchange, the rates can also move in the other direction).

There are some big investment funds, who make money by buying some good (currency, commodity, stocks, ....) say in the HK market and simultaneously selling it say in NY, but they exploit minimal market inefficiencies which can yield significant earning only by moving huge amounts of money. :D

Dju Dju is a refurbished hotel and has a longer history than Hana Hotel,hence it isn't as new. Another hotel in Batam worthy of stay in Hans Inn. Simple reason/s,price almost similar with Hana and just almost directly opposite it is Happy 8. Its near to Pas Massage (also opposite) ,even tho I don't recommend that place.

Hans Inn is also about in between Formosa Hotel and Utama hotel,which makes it more accessible to reach out to most massage places. New Berry has closed down,so Hana has somewhat lost its prime location unless one plans to access NED pubs and bars from Hana.

Nonetheless, Memory KTVs,Gold Bird and Link's were also relative near to Hana Hotel.

Note : Biz hotel and Utama hotel can be good choices too (base on pricing and location).

I am one of those constantly keeping a look-out for Maduranese and Indo-Chinese. Both of them when in a Massage Parlor provides a different types,style and quality services as compared to others. Definitely not the usual type of massage and/or special service I would get from the local Indo massage parlor.

My massage done by the both Indo Chinese and the Maduranese were almost never piano quality. Set back is, these girls were mostly MILF between the age of 27 to 35. Normally i went to HarbourBay terminal. I dont book hotel in advance. Just simply walk in. I know the charges differ from Kaha. Just that due to my work, i cant plan in advance. Teksi was 60K quoted to me initually. But due to the flood, had to paid extra 40K. You are lucky hotel overlooked the transport charges. But worth it ya if one were to book hotel advance that come with transport services cos that day was raining heavily.

Plenty of money changer in Harbour Bay (more than my 10 fingers,hehehe...). Every Batam ferry terminal always have plenty of money changer shops. The further a money changer is away from the terminal entrance, the better the rate. Nearer to your staying hotel,most money changer will give you an even better rate, BUT always check rates with at least 3 shops verbally in order to get the best.

Nowaday,i mainly brings (or suggest them to go) my friends to those Batam legendary joint,hehehe...calling it legendary becos they were joint that were already there before i 1st stepped into Batam.

If you made a comparison,the newer joints tends to be more expensive. And those newer joints were...

1. Bunga (Batam Most expensive)
2. Link's (2nd most expensive)
3. Sril Kandy (i will rank this one 3rd)
4. MM
5. JV Happy 8 (MM and Happy 8 were comparable)
6. KupuKupu (lowest among the most expensives)

Also ,these places were where mostly where the foreign worker frequent too. There wont be many 700k to 900k rupiah girls in those above joints (most of them has hardly any of those price range to choose from,hehehe...). Of course,if you are looking for around or above 2 juta girls, by all means try those 4-star hotel clubs/pubs like Grand I-hotel...hehehe...:D

If you are looking at those 32' no brand LCD TV,why not buy in Batam (Nagoya Hill Mall or BCS Mall)? Which is almost similar prices as in Singapore and you save the trouble carrying it all the way there.

Several times on the ferry,i see people carrying unboxed 32" LCD over to batam. Unbox means they took out the boxes,only use a bag to carry in the LCD TV. I dont think you need to pay any duties or tax that way tho.

(i used to carry a few 2nd hand computer LCDs to Batam too)

I forgot to add,i travelled via Horizon Ferry and disembarked at Harbour Bay ferry terminal while I was carrying those LCDs (with another friend). The same place I saw people carrying their unboxed 33' inch LCDs too. The rest of the other Batam ferry terminals,i cannot be sure.

This is not new; I know for a fact that from about 1.5-2 years ago, Indah2 already had a SYT that was priced at 2 juta... Petite and pretty SYT and she had no shortage of customers...

I agreed that its not new.

So far among booking joints,i have physically seen a place where the papi quoted me 2 juta for an overnight girl. (via the place's backdoor room) That's the closed down joint,Queen8933. And the only difference I was told back then that she was different from the rest was...she is underage (she's 15 and another one at 16,according to papi).

Anyway, the place has been shut down for quite a while.

The similar stated category of girls used to be able to get at around 1.5 juta to 1.7 juta somewhere near Newton tho (collected info was dated nearly 2 years ago). ;)

A short simple FR from last week..

Stayed in Formosa hotel this time,walk over to Happy 8 ,couldn't find the right girl with the right price, i targeted New berry b4 realizing that they were closed. From there ,i walk to moonlight & book a 20 year old girl there at 1.1 juta bargained from 1.5juta ,back to hotel in a taxi & have 1st shot.

I havent got charged by both the immigration custom on the 2 side of both countries before,so i cant really tell you. Both countries officers (Singapore and Indo Batam) react as per normal when i get through their luggage scanning stations. But the items definitely need to go thru their scanning machines.

Was your friend that help u carry an indo btw .

Back then,my friend was helping me to carry one 22 inch computer LCD and i was carrying 2 pieces of 19 inch computer LCDs,all packed in Giant store big-sized plastic bag,hehehe...

Those LCDs were computer LCDs,not LCD TVs. And they were old ones.

Like i say earlier,i would suggest you to buy in Batam since price-wise is quite close with Singapore (if not, sometime even cheaper). When i 1st started going Batam,i know one thing which i am very sure about. Electronic items arent as expensive in Batam compared to Singapore. Verified by an old friend who used to work in some Mega departmental store as manager in Singapore for almost 20 years (if not more).

One more thing,have you thought about your LCD TV warranty? And about after those warranty expires? (where you need to repair) Note : Some LCD TV carries on-site warranty (meaning they go your house to repair). Please dont tell me if your LCD TV broke down,you want to hand carry your LCD TV back to Singapore to repair and run the risk of being tax from Singapore side?

On top of that,i look a bit deeper on your query which i didnt notice when i 1st brought my LCDs into Batam...i think i might be more worry about the Singapore immigration custom instead. Below photo were taken from Singapore Cruise Center :

So, i suppose a lot of cases were "by right" cannot do,but "by left" if they choose not to give you trouble,it can always be done. (the law says that) I have seen many people carrying items bigger than those "stated size and weight" over to batam. Also seen people carrying FEW big unboxed LCD TVs (33inch) over too,i dont think they were being taxed tho.

So i think no one can really give you a 100% definite answer BUT i believe, 90% chance you will have no problem carrying a 32/33 inch LCD TV over to Batam. You still carry the other 10% risk factor of unforeseen circumstances. I think the whole trick is to unbox the items. Meaning,dont let it look like brand new to avoid getting taxed. If any officer/s ask you anything,just tell them its a gift for a friend living in Batam,or you can say like i have told them before...its for donation/charity.
