Walking is still the best way (my own perspective),so staying in a hotel within your pre-planned itinerary would be crucial. (eg, if i plan to roam BCS area,i probably wouldn't stay in Formosa hotel)

If I am in your position of travel to Batam,and if I am planning to stay in Formosa hotel,i will email the hotel to come pick me up and they also send me back to the same ferry terminal costing me 50k nett (2 way,so per point cost 25k only).

So even if you have changes in the last min,it wont cost you a dime. Just tell them you wish to book their 50k shuttle service to pick you up at xxx ferry terminal will do.

Its been a while since I ate at Mcdonald Batam,hehehe...maybe next trip may just drop in to give it a try. Somewhere last year, a regular set meal was sold at around 40k+ rupiah. Hopefully hasnt increase price yet.

Land transport we only could source from indorent, as they seem to be the only taxi service from the bintan resorts area to the uban or tp. Anyone else have better advice on bintan land tpt to the ferry terminals to batam? Seem like bintan tpt is expensive, esp originating from bintan resorts areas.

Is there anyone in Batam now? How is the situation NOW? I would need an update on the real situation, as I will be there in a couple of weeks.

More specifically:

1) Were Newton and Pacific really closed as expected on Friday 26, Saturday 27, Sunday 28 May? Or open anyway "secretely" accessible by the backdoor?

2) At what time Newton and Pacific are closing on these nights? I mean when did they close on Tuesday 30, Wednesday 31 and onwards?

Ramadan has just started. The first 3 days (26, 27, 28 May), when all entertainment in Batam is usually closed, passed already. The next days when all entertainment should be closed for sure will be the mid 3 days: i.e., 8, 9 and 10 June.

Is there anyone in Batam now? How is the situation NOW? I would need an update on the real situation, as I will be there in a couple of weeks.

More specifically:

1) Were Newton and Pacific really closed as expected on Friday 26, Saturday 27, Sunday 28 May? Or open anyway "secretely" accessible by the backdoor?

2) At what time Newton and Pacific are closing on these nights? I mean when did they close on Tuesday 30, Wednesday 31 and onwards?
Business as usual with closure after 5am, or did they close at 2am, as I remember it is usually required by police during Ramadan?
Please note that I am well aware of usual regulations and that they are not always enforced. I remember some days in past Ramadans when the front door of Newton was closed but the music was pumping hard and even audible from outside even at 6am...)

Sorry can't advice much on bintan land transports as you know you are in the resort area, and taxi sure to be expansive. Try ask your resort service counter about the market trip. As they are using van or minibus. It should be cheaper then taxi.

As for Batam side.(from Punggur)
Taxi to Jodor about 100k

If you can walk out of the carpark and willing to wait of the Orange Angkot you pay only 15k/pax

If you can wait even longer...
There is a regular Aircon bus plying between Punggur and Jodor should cost you 4k/pax.

If your plan wasn't to carry the whole taxi vehicle (+ driver) with you from Bintan island to Batam island,then you can also take a speed boat from Tanjung Uban to Batam's Telaga Punggur sea port at around 30k to 40k rupiah. Should takes around 15mins or so.

Below a map as a guide to travel from Bintan Resort area where you stand ,to Tanjung Uban (a port,not at Lobam ferry terminal) and also to Tanjong Pinang (another port) for your reference.

Below is a hotel transport price list mainly just for your price referencing (as they are expensive), as i often use it to serve as a guideline to bargain down the price by about 35% to 50%.

You may have to ask around any taxi you happen to use. Full 'day' normal taxi with 4 seats cost about 200k to 350k (but not till night time 930pm) after bargaining. Brought me as far as Pulau Galang,ex Vietnam camp. Some of my other friends who were a bit lazy to bargain for a better price took the 400k/day taxi. Others i read over the internet can pay as high as 800k for a 4 seater taxi.

There's major decline in Batam industrial , for last 2 years there's hundred of company and thousands of worker had been resign and still going , last month there 900 people and about 11 company resign ,
with this decline , the local selling stuff with high discount for people.

Nowaday in Batam,i really have to watch out for the price before and after a certain percentage of discount becos its becoming a trend for retail and service enterprises to bring up their prices up high up before they start throwing in the % discounts.

I have guessed the increase in prices for Formosa's Vienna restaurant,King Massage and New Spa before they did when their membership discount were out. Applies for a few certain few booking joints too,hehehe...luckily i am now at a safer distance just onlooking.

The Higher End booking joint DO NOT have girls below 1 juta (whereby some big fat ugly girls also can cost a juta and/or above in a few certain higher-end joints. Couple of runaway girls costing 1.4 to 1.5 juta having left at 1am+ etc etc also there.). The lower end booking places STILL have girls below 1 juta. The market there from my own perspective is, pay low to get most of the good stuffs or pay high to get the "probably-craps" today.

Batam is getting more expensive,but I found my own solution. Transportation can be a pain if one isn't used to taxi without running on meter and unlicensed taxi drivers. Touting is common,streets were dirtier,most tourist infested area were more carrot-head-chop prompt,terrorist-prompt and/or strike-prompt. Many Sillyporean were known to spoil the market since 60% who goes to Batam were them. Most of their comments on Batam were...Batam things "so dirt cheap"...hehehe... yet they unknowing (or unwisely) pays more than other 3rd world countries and later complain Batam is getting more expensive.

But luckily over the recent 2 odd years,there was an major influx of Foreign workers from sillypore going to Batam which beats many Sillyporean in terms on spending on girls (remember,a handful of them tries to undercut bro S girl last year by paying higher price?). Then again, many girls didn't like them (the FW) which results in them running away or citing reasons to do so (or they will indirectly force customers to throw them out). Those girls applies those many rules (including the 3 bonk rules which is becoming more frequent,according to this thread) for the foreign workers to Sillyporean over time and now,look at what happen,hehehe...

Delta & Octopuss changes their pricing close to half a dozen times over the last 3 ovr years UPWARDLY until many wiser bros who knws market rate choose not to patronize there anymore. Their range for a regular session package shld cost at least a minimum 500k rp to 600k rp & comes with a free hj with no auto-roaming recently. Auto-roaming & strip is negotiated for another extra price.

Hope that's enough to give u a rough guide on their pricing. ;)

Actually, Delta is about 700k now, for a package that includes HJ.

The food is quite good and one of the cheapest in Batam downtown area. Would rate the value at 9/10 and food quality at 7.8-8/10...

Yes, my main grouse is that it gets really hot at Hai Ou, especially with the sitting area underneath the zinc roof. If they air-con the dining area, it'll make for a much better dining atmosphere (but I suppose that'll eventually cause the food price to go up LOL).

If you haven't tried it, the sambal petai with tofu and prawn is damn good. A serving of that with white rice is good enough for a completely satisfying meal hehehe... They also have a fried fish with nyonya sauce, which is sweet, sour and spicy. This item is not on the menu and is damn shiok

Which part of batam u stay in is crucial bro. I recommend Spa Villa @ sekupang when u stayed in Nagoya wnt make economic sense. But if u stay Nongsa i ask u to go all the way dwn to Utama also wnt make sense too. If you're heading to places like Delta / Octopus / Btm City Hotel, the rate there is fixed, can just check with the mummy unless you request for special service like CIM etc...
If you're looking for super low-cost, can explore around those massage shophouses behind Utama Hotel / opposite of DC mall. Those are the places where you can nego directly, DC should be around 70K - 200K depending on the service requested. (Note: don't expect pretty young chick at cheap places, mostly MILF).
There is one just opened not long ago, called Venus at batam centre near to Sahid Hotel. There was a 30-50% promotion during its grand-opening. I ain't sure about now. Heard quite a few delta ladies move over there and service provided: body massage & 2 x HJ. The price package in this place is fixed too.
If you hv the budget for high end quality, just go to the club at planet holiday or Grand I hotel at Nagoya Hill, look for the puppy. They have overseas stock like china, thailand & vietnam. I hate seeing discoes closing at 3am, as this diminishes significantly my happy night time, but on the other hand it's good to see less tourists around and still many girls happy to meet someone new.
I would not recommend anyone to visit Batam on Ramadan for the first time, but if one knows how to move around, it has a lot to offer.

Everyone's market rate can be different online. As for my own,it would be 50%-66.7% off after bargaining over SG's prices. Every shop's girls in batam will try to quote customer SG price so it's up to u to bring tat down.

I go to a SG men's spa,usually cost $70-$80 without the special,add on special abt $50-$70. Total can come out to be abt $120-$150. In Batam,I'll be expecting around $50. Of course,i'm talking abt men's spa now.

For smaller scale & in-hotel massage shops,i do a similar comparison. Special service HJ is abt $50 & a FJ abt $100 in SG. In Batam would then be abt 150k-250k after bargaining for HJ & 300k-500k for FJ. Anything higher would be considered higher than normal for me.

There's however one thing i have to agreed with bro nono, that is the higher one pays ,there's the likelihood of a more inferior-ed service.

Just quote an example in one of my 1st few earlier trips to batam. I visited a hotel MP,the girl quoted me 500k,i didn't bargain,happy-ending ends with no roaming,no full strip off & if i want 'those' additions,i will have to top up another extra 100k+100k,so end up have to pay 700k if i wanted 'those' ++.

Another time in the same place,same girl. I was quoted 500k again, i bargained to 200k. Again there was no strip no roam,& i have to top up 100k for roaming & another 100k for full strip. End day after all the bargaining, we agreed to a price of 300k for the same service i paid 700k for. I told her i would tip her more if her service lvl is up to my expectation as a bonus beforehand & by end of my session,due to her hardwork & the extra mile services,i tipped her an extra 50k. So my total damage for a better than my previous 700k session cost only 350k,yet with the girls going the extra mile to please me in there. I visited the same girl at same place once more before i left batam to help her remember me better with the same bargained price.

The lesson i learned during that trip was,if i wish to start with a more inferior-ed service,i should not bargain at all. I bargained for my future RTM & RTF sake. Thereafter after that eventful session,all other girls from the same shop don't cost me more than 350k anymore. :)

Batam is getting more expensive,but I found my own solution. Transportation can be a pain if one isn't used to taxi without running on meter and unlicensed taxi drivers. Touting is common,streets were dirtier,most tourist infested area were more carrot-head-chop prompt,terrorist-prompt and/or strike-prompt.

I went to recce Da Vienna finally. Long time I wanted to do that.
My heart is stuck with Formosa, but Da Vienna is another category.

New, stilish, upper-scale lobby looking 2 stars higher.
New rooms, definitely another planet compared to Formosa.
Bathroom too is another thing. Junior Suite has bath tab designed for 1 but also can accomodate 2 (no more than 2, regrettably).
Also located conveniently in front of Windsor at the side of Harmoni Suites. 5 minutes walking from Nagoya Hill and Formosa.
It's an upper category, new and designed for the international traveller. It looks like a standard upper class hotel, while Formosa has something that makes me feel I am away, something "on the border".

The bed is very good and new, but standard size for 2. I am used to the huge bed of Formosa, which can accommodate 3 comfortably (yes, that's my favourite). I wonder if I could adapt to the standard bed for 2.

In addition to these cons, I wonder if the Da Vienna staff at night would be so understanding with me as in Formosa.
Yesterday, I brought back to my room from Pacific 3 girls (my friend #1, her friend #2 who spent the night with us some nights ago already, and another new friend #3, who #1 kindly introduced to me yesterday) and nobody made a fuss if 4 people were going to sleep in a room for 2. This is why I love this place.

I have been there at A2 Bei Long as early as 1030am-11am in the morning during the CNY time. Cant be eating Meximo pub noodles all the time,hehehe...

If you wish to escape the tourists there,try to go after 230pm and seat at around the MM siok bak store 'almost' outside the food court,that location allows me to see people stepping into the food court (and leaving) and becos it is near to the drinks store,not many customers will walk until there. The bad thing is,the staffs there cannot see you clearly and will usually heck care you even when you signal out to them.

Weekdays,230pm to 5pm is the quietest time at A2 food court (applies to most food places too). I like to avoid the possibly terrorist attack timing,hehehe...and at times,even places too. I just dont like crowded places. :D

If you like Chinese, I would say: stay in Singapore (provided that you cannot move to HK or PRC easily).

1) IndoChinese are the richest segment of population. Did you notice most restaurant owners are Chinese?
=> that makes unlikely to have IndoChinese girls choosing this job in a massage joint because in need of money (this job is not the one a girl would dream about).

2) I love Chinese girls! Well, with all due respect, IndoChinese are mostly very ugly. Protruding chin and crooked stick are common. The last girls who flash my attention in Batam are the IndoChinese.
(but there are the Singaporean Chinese who are a totally different story... Too bad my chances with them are ZERO)

I use 100k HJ and 200k FJ as a benchmark in Batam,yet not persisting on it so that I could get VAS (value-added services) if the girls ask for more money. The girls will almost always quote a higher price than i bench-marked; usually double and at times even tripled if i ask the girl "how much".

Anything with a middleman in between your deal with the girls/, pricing will always be higher than its norm. Eg, booking joints,KTVs etc.

Everyone's market rate can be different online. As for my own,it would be 50%-66.7% off after bargaining over SG's prices. Every shop's girls in batam will try to quote customer SG price so it's up to u to bring tat down.

I go to a SG men's spa,usually cost $70-$80 without the special,add on special abt $50-$70. Total can come out to be abt $120-$150. In Batam,I'll be expecting around $50. Of course,i'm talking abt men's spa now.

For smaller scale & in-hotel massage shops,i do a similar comparison. Special service HJ is abt $50 & a FJ abt $100 in SG. In Batam would then be abt 150k-250k after bargaining for HJ & 300k-500k for FJ. Anything higher would be considered higher than normal for me.

There's however one thing i have to agreed with bro nono, that is the higher one pays ,there's the likelihood of a more inferior-ed service.

For any indo girls quoting a higher than in Sillypore price is forgivable becos most didn't know. But for a Sillyporean to accept those price? Hehehe...it all really boils down to wisdom.

Batam is still the cheapest and yet nearest to Sillypore. For a simple and yet relaxing trip with some additional entertainment, Batam can still be a good choice for people like me. ;)

Just quote an example in one of my 1st few earlier trips to batam. I visited a hotel MP,the girl quoted me 500k,i didn't bargain,happy-ending ends with no roaming,no full strip off & if i want 'those' additions,i will have to top up another extra 100k+100k,so end up have to pay 700k if i wanted 'those' ++.

Many got hit by this trick over the years. Not that paying higher is not good or unfair, but its more on the girls attitude of work. Once the girls earned enough from her 1st deal. The next following customer suffers.

An example : During all 3 CNYs,girls were known to quote me 300k for a HJ from a few different places without backing down on prices. Meaning,its fix price,hehehe...and their attitude is, take it or leave it. I chose to leave it.

Another time in the same place,same girl. I was quoted 500k again, i bargained to 200k. Again there was no strip no roam,& i have to top up 100k for roaming & another 100k for full strip. End day after all the bargaining, we agreed to a price of 300k for the same service i paid 700k for. I told her i would tip her more if her service lvl is up to my expectation as a bonus beforehand & by end of my session,due to her hardwork & the extra mile services,i tipped her an extra 50k. So my total damage for a better than my previous 700k session cost only 350k,yet with the girls going the extra mile to please me in there. I visited the same girl at same place once more before i left batam to help her remember me better with the same bargained price.

The lesson i learned during that trip was,if i wish to start with a more inferior-ed service,i should not bargain at all. I bargained for my future RTM & RTF sake. Thereafter after that eventful session,all other girls from the same shop don't cost me more than 350k anymore.

If you were to pay her 700k instead of the 350k,i am guessing you probably may not be able to see her before you left that day. She might be on leave from work for a day or 2 to go shopping,hehehe...and when her money runs out,she will be back to work.

Many years ago,when my parents worked in Jakarta,they told me companies don't pay their Indo workers's salary on a monthly basis. Instead,they pay them weekly. The reason as I was told was, they couldn't keep their salary for barely a week or so....hehehe....

That's why I often tell me friends in Batam, once I am able to understand their culture better,i will then be able to put a certain situation to my advantage. Batam is like a RPG game, my game.

I don't pay more than 500k for fj & 350k for hj anymore. My usual fj cost between 250k-400k,hj cost 150k-250k. For me to pay to my maximum of 500k/350k,the girls will need to be at least an SYT below 22 & not have given birth before.

Surrounding Utama hotel's more rundown MP,i pay 100k-250k for HJ & 200k-350 for FJ.

Hotel's Palor & Men's Spa that dont provide hj packages,i pay 150k-200k for HJ & 350k-500k for FJ.

Chinese locals in batam,i pay 200k for hj & 400k for fj.

Wechat FJ i'd bargain for a flat rate of 400k. It's my last choice,so they can take it or leave it.

Those prices i talk abt don't include entrance & i'd say, it's yr ultimate call to make during yr own session when u are there.

Just remember, normal days each massage girl in most massage parlor that do special service only have about 1 or if they are lucky enough, 2 customers. Sometimes, even none (many massage shops in Batam) for a few days if luck isn't with them. Not all customers, especially hotel guests in Hotel Parlor takes up special services or at times, is convenient to ask for one.

Girls who refuse to back down,i just drop them. Reason is simple, they arent "hungry" enough. Too many girls in this trade in Batam and there will be no lack of good enough choices. I like quiet "places", no one disturbing me. No fear of disturbance, eg terrorist attack,hehehe...

There are also mn other good food. It is also close to my hotel ,Hotel Sahid . Thou its very crowded but the place is still quite chilly, my favourite place to eat now in batam centre. Just my twocent for anyone looking for an A2 style foodcourt in Batam Centree ......:D:D

It's fairly new, opened for less than 1 year.

For those who were fans of the Bak Chor mee from Instar coffeeshop, this is where they have shifted to. The bak chor mee is still as good and great value at 19k rupiah.

The other good food here are the Kway Chap, mee siam and fried carrot cake. Also have 3-4 bak kut teh stalls here (got Shuang Hong BKT & Simpang Empat BKT).

Avoid the nasi campur though, it's not very nice..
